ZIMA Awards 2015 Nominees out

The long awaited list of the Zimbabwe Music Awards for 2015 nominees is finally out but the ceremony will now be held early next year.

At a press briefing in the city, the organisers had this to say:

ZIMA is proud to host this short ceremony to announce the results of what has been largely a gruelling and long journey to determine the nominees in a raft of categories. Indeed we have come up with what should reflect the clearest possible picture of artistes that excelled in the period under focus, who submitted their works for consideration according to our traditional criterion.

The list always generates a lot of talk and debate among fans and musicians and the organisers are aware of it:

We hope the list of nominees raises interest and excitement. Most importantly, we hope it helps us celebrate Zimbabwean talent together as we seek to make ZIMA bigger and better with each coming year.

Here is the list:

Itai Mutinhiri is still single y’all

So Star FM’s Itai Mutinhiri got up to something and posted the below image on both her Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The Star FM news presenter triggered an avalanche of questions in our heads, who is the lucky guy who just scooped one of Radio’s beautiful faces and voices?

Of course that is an index finger with that beautiful rock ..but hold on.. the other finger has a ring too…Itai come one now!!!!?

After dodging questions from her facebook friends to confirm whether she been engaged or not, Zimbuzz decided to give her a call last night to ease the tension off some guy out there who is still deciding on his strategy and the conversation went something like this:

Zimbuzz: Hello Itai its Michael from Zimbuzz, you posted what appear to be an engagement ring on your instagram account, are you engaged sha?

Itai: No I’m not.

And that was the end of the conversation in just 39 seconds.

So as far as we know Itai Mutinhiri is still single y’all. NB: Single here refers to not married

Here is the face (and body) that accompanies that soothing voice you hear on Star FM news.

Open letter to Mark Zuckerberg – By Abie Dhliwayo

Dear Sir,

I write to register my complaint over your company’s failure to identify with Nigerians in times of tragedy, but rather chose to identify with other nations.

Sir, I don’t want to believe your bias was informed by the superiority the races you often identify with.

In any of our recurring tragedies, either when we were bombed in our sanctuaries or social gatherings, Facebook never identified with Nigeria and Kenya

While my heart goes to the French over yesterday night’s terrorist attacks that led to the death of
at least 120 people, I couldn’t but lash at the folly of Facebook for failure to identify with Nigeria and Kenya when an estimated 15,000 Africans were killed by terrorists in round-the-clock attacks in eight years.

I notice a smashing theme you created for your 1 billion users to use in order to identify with a particular people.

You are even more effusive when you pin the banner on our doorstep for easy use.

When Boko Haram terrorists attacked Baga town in January this year, the death toll was estimated at 2,000. This never melted your company’s heart to create an instant theme for your 1 billion consumers to identify with
Nigeria.

Alshaabab killed 149 universty students in Kenya ths summer ..u did nothng to sympathise wth the Kenyans

Let me remind you of a single attack on Kano city ,Nigeria in January 2012, at least 185 lives
perished, and in Bama town in February 2014, at least 120 Nigerians were massacred.

Also read As local celebs mourn with France, the gesture still divides opinion

In one fell swoop in November 2014, Boko Haram bombed 220 Nigerians at a mosque in Kano city, 50 worshippers bombed at Madalla church in 2011, and in February 2014, at least 60 students were slain at a Yobe school.

Your company didn’t identify with us despite our loyalty to your network.

Let me also remind you that at a weekend in January 2014, terrorists’ attacks on eight Borno villages left 150 dead.

Facebook blinked over it – perhaps because we are not the same as the French.

On May 20, 2014, car bombs left a gory sight at Jos bus terminal and a market. 118 people were declared dead. We posted the pictures on Facebook, but you turned your eyes away. You even blockd some users who posted it on grounds of being graphic

Even # BringBackOurGirls movement, agitating for the release of 224 school girls abducted by terrorists, failed to prick the conscience of your company to identify with Nigeria.

We posted every activity, every sit-out and every march on your network, but you blinked over
it.

As a company to gives equal opportunity and discourages racism, I urge you to identify with
not only Nigerians but Africans in their trying times.

My 1st comment has two copies of Flags the Nigerian and the Kenyan for your perusal and consideration

Best regards

Bosslad Ah !

As local celebrities join France in mourning..the gesture still divides opinion among many

Following the unfortunate terrorist attack in France, local celebrities have shown their solidarity with the French people by installing the Flag App that Facebook has introduced.

Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube, singer Cindy Munyavi, film-maker Joe Njagu, Sportscaster Mike Madoda, Star FM presenter Trish Carmen,Social commentator Thomas CST Chizhanje among others installed the French flag as they joined that nation in mourning.

However the decision by Facebook to introduce this app didn’t go down well with the locals as they accuse the social network of selective compassion.

This notion is supported by the fact that the world has seen many killings but those have not been given much emphasis as has happened to France.

Below are some of the comments that the Zimbuzz team managed to gather on facebook

Ano-Admire Shumba Masunga

We have known through the media that 147 people were massacred in Kenya, 2000 in Nigeria, a 100 in Beirut, 1000 in the Gaza strip and recently 150 people have been killed in Paris and Facebook has gone as far as introducing a French flag app. The question is, are some countries more special than others? The same could have been done to some of è above-mentioned countries.

It’s a Pity for France if you ask me my peoples, however after having changed my profile pic to the France flag for a few hours my sixth sense quickly came back to ask me how about the thousands killed in Nigeria by Boko Haram, the 147 students dead in Kenya and countless others in Africa, never have we ever witnessed Facebook ask for profile pic changes… So for that, Sorry guys back to normal business for me it’s just another normal day in the world

Mark did nothing wrong.. infact well done to him for showing solidarity. He cant teach you to do the same for yo own. Lets love ourselves more. A bird can only relate to a bird. Dont blame a bird for not loving a cat

150 students slaughtered in Kenya n yet u dont knw what their flag looks like…
Please make me another cup of w### tea.. cos it non of my business

Peasants.. we are on our on

Not condoning the initiative but the selective media by the West. Africa is of no consequence to them. Kenya, Lebanon, Nigeria, even Syria????
