All set for Selmor Mtukudzi Album launch this Friday !

Popular Afro-jazz musician and heiress to Tuku music legacy, Selmor Mtukudzi will launch her sixth album ‘Dehwe ReNzou’ at RM Garden Hall at the Harare Show Grounds this Friday 31 January 2020.

‘Dehwe ReNzou’ follows up on the release of a single ‘Mandidzimbira’ dedicated to Oliver Mtukudzi last week. The well-received single has set the tone and warmed the stage for the launch of ‘Dehwe ReNzou’.

The much-anticipated album launch has been spiced up with the inclusion of the evergreen Alick Macheso, on the performance line up. Macheso, undoubtedly the King of Zimbabwean music after the death of Oliver Mtukudzi, brings in a Sungura flare to Selmor Mtukudzi’s Katekwe.

Over the last two months Macheso has also roped in Selmor Mtukudzi as a supporting act during his tours. That fatherly gesture significantly helped to take Selmor’s music to the people.

A fusion of Afro-Jazz and traditional local beats, ‘Dehwe Renzou’ is an 11 track album. It was produced by Steve Dyer at Dyertribe studios in South Africa except a single house track which was done by McDee.

Steve Dyer is renowned for producing Oliver Mtudzi’s platinum album ‘Tuku Music’. He also produced ‘Bvuma’ and ‘Paivepo’, albums which totally changed Mtukudzi’s music fortunes. On the other hand, McDee is credited for producing Selmor’s popular house tracks like ‘Hangasa’ and ‘Nguva Yangu.’

Veteran Black Spirits members Picky Kasamba, Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure also featured on the album. Picky Kasamba did backing vocals and percussion whilst Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure played bass and drums respectively.

Legendary South African musician Vusi Mahlasela popularly known as ‘The Voice’ also features on one of the tracks.

Though it is not easy to pick the best tracks from the well-packaged album, Zvine Basa Rei, Uchafinhwa, Tanda Mbizi and Unconditional Love are leading the others in terms of popular appeal.

The album launch starts at 7.30 pm till late. Admission is US$ 5 equivalent for ordinary tickets and US $10 for VIP tickets.

5 Things We Learned From the ZIMA Awards 2020

Four years is a long time to be away, but Saturday 25 January came up fast for music lovers who had waited for the return of the Zimbabwe Music Awards.

Newlands was the venue and the expectation was high and so was the appetite for a good time.

Here are the Five things that we learned.

1. We still struggle to sing our own National Anthem.

Treasonous! That’s how I can describe the way Fusion 5 bastardized the National Anthem. You see, the national anthem is our national prayer, it is a solemn patriotic song, it is an expression of national identity.

It represents the tradition, history, and beliefs of a nation and its people. Now for someone to mumble through the lyrics of such an important song is utter disrespect. Disrespect both to the language and to the Nation.

2. There are corporates who still believe in Showbiz

Now for a cement company to be a headline sponsor of a music show was a stamp of confidence on the organisers’ part. This shows that someone and something is right up there with the new organisers led by CEO Reason Sibanda.

Kudos to PPC for believing in music. We don’t know how much you poured in, but we had an event and it went almost well.

3. We still use the sunset and shadows of trees to determine time

I saw some organisers wearing nice watches but those were just to decorate their wrists. Because if the watches did work, how is it that an event can start 2 hours late? Do you know what can happen in 2hrs?

That’s a whole soccer match including half time break. We really felt patronised by ZIMA considering that nobody cared to explain the cause of the delay or apologise for it.

4. The Awards have lost credibility

On the same day as the ZIMAs, Jah Prayzah had an appreciation concert in Budirio where he was thanking his real paymasters – the fans – for raising him and supporting his music. So were some of the nominees whose absence goes to show the level of disdain and mistrust towards the Awards.

Who can blame them when you have adjudicators making the whole country believe that Takura did more for Hip Hop than Ti Gonzi.

Who can blame them for snubbing a ceremony that saw it fit to award Ishan the Best Male gong. Who would bother to attend the next edition when history will record that Gemma was 2019 Best Female artist. That was scandalous!

5. NAMA and Star FM in serious danger.

Almost the same constituency will be expected to attend the NAMAs and Star FM Awards in just a month’s time. The precedence that ZIMA has set will have a direct consequence on how Awards are to be viewed in this country and the same snub may befall the two aforementioned.

NAMA and Star FM organisers now need to do some serious PR work to make sure theirs won’t become a sham.

Ti Gonzi quotes ED as he blasts ZIMA Awards

Rapper Ti Gonzi has broken silence about his treatment by the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) where many feel he was robbed.

Ti Gonzi was nominated in Best Male, Best Hip Hop and was also nominated for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration categories for the song Kure which he did with Ishan.

He walked away with no award.

Despite dominating with the year and winning Best Male at the Zim Hip Hop award, Gonzi lost the ZIMA Best hip hop to Takura.

And they was a sudden gush of fury and vitriol from his fans and music lovers alike as they blasted ZIMA for what they termed the greatest robbery.

Ti Gonzi was also listening and reading what the people were saying and he gave a response.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God.No matter how much they try, they will never lie to the masses/people,” wrote Ti Gonzi, quoting a phrase which was popularised by President ED when he rose to power in 2017.

“Ndirikuzviona hangu kuti ruzhinji (majority) rwevanhu harisi kufara but the work I put for the music industry (ZimHipHop) in 2019 does not need a panel to validate me. Like I said on my previous post, just the 4 nominations were a win for me coz it showed me where I am now.”

He congratulated all the winners but said he was dissapointed by the ZIMA organisers.

“..And to ZIMA honestly I am disappointed. My perception of ZIMA Awards has changed, had I known, I wouldn’t even let my management submit for the awards or even talk about it to my followers,” he added.

Meet TeeMak the Young Businessman who Signed Enzo Ishall

The name TeeMak has made the showbiz rounds lately particularly the announcement that he had signed dancehall star Enzo Ishall.

He is also the same guy, together with his friend who purchased a vehicle for DJ Towers.

So who is TeeMak and what is he all about. Zimbuzz has previously written about him as an artist from as far back as 2015.

He says he could likely be Zimbabwe’s youngest self-made millionaire.

At just age 23 years, TeeMak is your unlikely entrepreneur whose unparalleled discipline and seemingly crazy ambition has seen him build Maximus Capital a multimillion-dollar hedge fund based in Malaysia (a country he moved to at the tender age of 13).

As founder and CEO of Maximus, TeeMak aims to sustainably disrupt the existing financial space by providing investors with the means to safe investment options that produce exceptional returns through lean enterprise management whilst using proven profitable trading methodology.

Always being one to challenge the status quo, the investments maverick, dropped out of university where he was studying Computer Science to embark on an entrepreneurial journey that ironically leveraged the discipline and networks he had developed in his short stint in university.

The decision was one not taken lightly, but one driven by the vision to attain financial freedom at a young age in order to serve as an inspiration to others and be able to invest in empowering the youth in his home country of Zimbabwe, Africa and then the world.

Oswald Teemak and Enzo Ishall

Whilst running his business, he later went on to complete his university qualification through a UK online based Open University.

TeeMak started out as a salesperson, selling investment opportunities in green energy for a United Kingdom-based company. It was a role he thrived in but also a role that had its fair share of challenges.

Even though he was able to achieve sales of over USD500 000, he was unable to successfully tap into the African market after having had various conferences in Southern Africa.

After spending months in Zambia trying to expand his sales business, he was overcome by the desire to work for himself and realized that he could convert his already existing clientele if he were to present them with another investment opportunity.

So, the markets savvy TeeMak capitalised on his skill set in forex trading and built Maximus from there using funds from a few close friends.

Since then TeeMak has partnered with equally driven Malaysian locals who handle the operations of the company while he diligently focuses on the trading aspect of the business.

Maximus’ exponential growth can be attributed to its vast network of high net worth individuals whose appetites grew after enjoying great returns resulting in them investing more and telling their friends.

The company also runs a parallel fund, which helps it to protect investors’ capital at all costs, making it attractive for even risk-averse investors.

TeeMak is taking giant leaps out of his and has his eyes set on growing his fund through the expansion of his investor base, investing in businesses by Zimbabwean youth, and partnering with African governments to eradicate poverty.

African Reality Series ‘Ultimate Love’ Premieres February 9 on DStv

Relationships lie at the heart of a new reality television series launching on DStv in February, when Ultimate Love will help a group of people find love.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the show, created in Nigeria but with interest for viewers all over Africa, would premiere on Sunday February 9 and would offer a 24/7 insight into the participants’ quest for lasting and meaningful relationships.

“The series follows the journey of single men and women living in an isolated location in a quest to find life-long love and build relationships as couples, hoping this will lead to marriage,” she said.

“They will be joined by a resident counsellor called Aunty, who will assist each of them in finding the perfect partner and provide counselling sessions and support. The winning couple will be rewarded with a lavish wedding ceremony and a fully-furnished home if they commit to getting married.”

For this maiden edition, a total of 16 strangers – eight men and eight women – will feature live on television for 24 hours throughout the duration of the show, taking part in a series of activities that test their compatibility as couples, with viewers voting off their least favourite couple each week.

“Zimbabwean just love a successful love story, and this series could provide them with a great deal of fun and satisfaction as they follow the screen couples’ successes and failures,” said Ms Dziva.

Ultimate Love will be LIVE and 24/7 on DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family and Access packages.
