“We want to make them aware that they should not work hard and sacrifice all their lives to build a career and potentially lose everything overnight because of something you do or say,” said Morgan Heritage.

“As students of history, we learned about brutal figures, and we’d like to start a conversation about today’s newsmakers and ensure the youths don’t make the same mistakes.”

Morgan Heritage is giving its fans the chance to get creative and vote for which artwork to feature in the upcoming single.

As a reward for participating, all votes will be entered into a drawing to win tickets to a show or a merchandise bundle. Three lucky winners will be announced on January 26th, via their social media platforms.

Two Zimbabweans Seek to Boost African Film-Making With MultiChoice Talent Factory Programme

Two Zimbabweans are among the 60 students selected for the MultiChoice Talent Factory programme for 2023, both of them hoping to help boost the ranks of trained professionals in Africa’s growing world of film-making.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said Marvellous Matswimbo and  Simbarashe Nyahwa of Harare had joined 58 other students from across Africa to form the Class of 2023 in the ongoing MTF programme, now in its fourth year.

The MTF programme is fully funded by MultiChoice Africa, which introduced the concept five years ago as a means of increasing the pool of talent in the field of film-making in Africa and which has so far helped 180 graduates ready themselves for a launch into the industry.

“We are excited to once again have two Zimbabweans in the MTF academic year, having had two in each of the previous year-long programmes,” she said.

“They are now at the MTF Academy in Lusaka, which is the base for students from Southern Africa, along with 18 other students from this region. Other academies in Nairobi for East Africa and Lagos for West Africa each also have 20 students, making up the 60-strong Class of 2023.”

The MTF programme received thousands of applications from 13 countries across Africa and after a rigorous selection process the 60 aspiring filmmakers for this year were selected for the 12-month training programme that includes theoretical training and hands-on experience in film-making, from scriptwriting to cinematography and from editing to audio post-production.

This year’s candidates in the Southern African academy are made up of 50 percent males and 50 percent females, while the West African academy features 40 percent males and 60 percent females and the East African academy hosts 55 percent males and 45 percent females.

MTF Academies will this year continue to work with regional and international partners to ensure that the students receive the best training and practical experience possible as they work towards a place in the film and television industry.

Renowned local and international facilitators are part of the trainers such as academician Dr Benea Shapaya, Senior Lecturer Film and Media Studies at Kenyatta University, who will be facilitating a session on the history of film and television industry in Africa, and 4x SAFTA award-winning writer, producer, and Director – Neil McCarthy, who is currently one of the most highly experienced screenwriters in the country.

The program also boasts a high calibre of award-winning specialists from across the continent, many of whom produce content for M-Net group channels.

The top graduates from each of the three academies will be given an opportunity to develop their skills even further after the course, earning internships sponsored by MTF partner organisations, among them the New York Film Academy and Zee World.

“This exciting opportunity for the top graduates will give them access to even more hands-on experience and further prepare them for roles in film-making in the future,” said Ms Dziva.

“Film-making is a wonderful art and science and, because it is continuously evolving, MTF students are encouraged to explore and exploit emerging technologies that are already revolutionising the industry.”

MTF’S class of 2022 has, since graduating three months ago, seen 60 percent of its number become economically active in film-making, testimony to the effectiveness of the MTF programme.

“We wish all 60 students well, especially our two Zimbabwean representatives, and we look forward to hearing of their progress as they work through 2023,” said Ms Dziva.

Zimbabwe lose to Ireland, Series level at 1-1

Zimbabwe lost to Ireland by 46 runs after a route by Stephen Doheny (84) and Harry Tector (75) who proved a handful for the Zimbabwe bowling attack.

Ireland posted a 294 which proved a handful for the Zimbabwe batsmen.

It was not all doom as returning batsman Chamu Chibhabha posted a decent 40 runs before he got caught by Hume trying to clear the boundary.

Sikandar Raza Butt had an abrupt stay on the crease after scoring 25 off 21 balls before giving away his wicket.

It was Ryan Burl (41) and Zimbabwe debutant Gary Balance (52) who tried to revive the Zimbabwe innings but both fell on the wayside as Zimbabwe eventually suffered a four-wicket defeat.

Tadiwanashe Marumani again failed to deliver on the top order spot although he had been preferred over fellow struggling batsman Wessley Madhevere.

Ireland was buoyed by Josh Little’s four wickets and the aforementioned batters’ efforts.

Zimbabwe won the toss and asked Ireland to bat first.

Zimbabwe had won against Ireland in the first ODI after a similar toss result.

What would be Zimbabwe’s struggles started with a century first wicket stand between Paul Stirling and Doheny.

Harry Tector (75) entered slightly after the half of the innings had been played and hit the massive score off just 61 balls.

Stephen Doheny’s seven fours and a six were also crucial in Ireland’s win.

Perennial death bowler Tendai Chatara’s three wickets in the last overs prevented the visitors from scoring 300.

Zimbabwe has a chance to close the series on Monday which will make the host victors in both the T20I and ODI Series.

Ministers Ellard & Sharon Cherayi Showcase Unifying Power of Music in Marriage and Ministry

“A Couple That Sings Together, Stays Together” is an inspirational mantra that speaks to the unifying power of music.

There is something special about singing together that brings people closer, for a couple that sings together it brings joy and unity to a relationship.

This is true of Ministers Ellard and Sharon Cherayi, a married couple who have been singing gospel music together for many years specialising in traditional hymns and contemporary gospel songs with passionate vocal harmonies, which brings joy and hope to audiences all over the Christian world.

Their performance is not just about singing, but also about connecting with their audience and spreading the love of God through music.

Ministers Ellard and Sharon Cherayi’s commitment to music and faith is evident every time they step onto the stage. Whether they are performing alone or with their full band, their performances are always uplifting, heartfelt, and soulful.

“The Bible says One can chase a thousand but two can chase ten thousand. This has been a reality in our ministry and life,” says Ellard Cherayi of their ministry as a couple.

“It is very rare to find a spouse that has the same passion as you and that supports you in that same industry. But for us, we have managed to complement each other in a unique way.

“We have managed to build our careers on the love and friendship we share and in turn, it spills over to what we do on stage and it is amazing.”

The couple recently collaborated on their first hymn titled ‘Fara Iwe Moyo Wangu’ which was written, arranged and produced by Michael Manyika with the help of Sharon Manyonganise-Cherayi.

The youthful couple puts God first in all they do, something which they say has been a cornerstone of their marriage.

“Marriage was founded by God. He is the initiator of marriage and the first marriage officer, meaning any marriage that is not founded on Him may not stand,” said Cherayi.

Many have always wondered how music groups and duos reach an agreement or consensus in their creative works.

The Cherayis have it easy.

“I think it’s about knowing your spouse and potential and letting the other shine in their potential not to be a stumbling block to them,” explains Minister Ellard.

“For instance, Sharon is so gifted in the knowledge of music, the art arrangements etc, and when the time comes to rehearsals, writing songs and arrangements, I let her be.”

“On my part, I am a Pastor, the spirituality of music and worship is my expertise, she lets me shine from there. So we complement each other very well and before you know it, the song is done.”
