Baba Manyeruke in Surprise Comeback as he Launches New Album

It will seem Baba Manyeruke had given us enough music to last a lifetime, but the gospel singer has dug into his rich creative pot to release yet another album.

On Saturday 19 May 2018 the veteran Gospel artist Mechanic Manyeruke will launch his new album: ‘DZOKORORO’ in Harare at the upmarket Meikles Hotel, fitting for a celebration themed ‘An Evening with the Legend’.

Rising from the small village of Chiundura near the city of Gweru in Zimbabwe, today Mechanic (Baba) Manyeruke is a household name in Zimbabwe, a Gospel artist who over many years paved a road for the genre in Zimbabwe, with many struggles along the way.

Like so many artists of the world, he has not enjoyed an easy journey but worked many humble jobs to survive in his youth.

A chequered career from gardener to painter, driver and waiter, which provided for his family while he grew as a musician and struggled with early recording companies to recognise Gospel music as needed and wanted in Zimbabwe.

His father was a singer and dancer at traditional gatherings and festivals, specializing in Mhande dances and songs.

After early encounters with the banjo in his childhood, Mechanic was captured by the music of the Salvation Army Band, which he joined in 1968 – and grew from there.

A song leader drafted him into his first live band, ‘The Gospel Singers.

In 1976, at a time when Gospel music was seldom heard on the national airwaves, he recorded his first solo single, ‘Mwana Muparadzi, the Prodigal Son’ with the B-side ‘Kufahakuna member – Death knows no celebrity status’.

Not surprisingly it was not a commercial success but undaunted, he went on to record his first album with the Four Brothers in 1973, and over 20 more since then.

For this launch, Baba Manyeruke called on one of the people who have grown up following his journey since her childhood, and the event is coordinated by the acclaimed Gospel and afro-jazz artist, Dudu Manhenga.

Of her involvement in over 20 years in the arts she says, “I have sung at many events to try to fundraise for a fellow artist we had never celebrated alive.  I welcome the opportunity to serve baba after our interaction in January at the ‘Hope for Zimbabwe’ concert in Chitungwiza.”

Dudu set up the Pulse Foundation which includes pulse Creative Solutions and offers events planning and management as a service.

Now well into his 70s and after many hundreds of performances and 45 years in the recording industry, Baba Manyeruke’s new offering holds the promise of a full, rich musical journey encompassing classic and new originals.

The launch of his latest album in‘An Evening with the Legend’ on 19 May is sure to be both highly enjoyable and a truly inspirational experience.

Capleton Arrested And Charged With Rape

Dancehall and Reggae legend Capleton real name Clifton Bailey was on Friday arrested on allegations of raping his hairdresser in a hotel, according to Jamaican media.

The entertainer was arrested by detectives assigned to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offence and Child Abuse (CISOCA) after the rape report.

Capleton was questioned in the presence of his attorney Christopher Townsend and that’s when he was arrested and charged.

Reports suggest that the woman filed a police report on May 2 claiming that Capleton sexually assaulted her at a hotel in New Kingston.

In her police report, the unnamed female told police officers that she was contracted by the entertainer to groom his hair at the hotel in New Kingston on April 28 and that’s when he forced himself onto her and had sex with her against her will.

She didn’t file the police report until May 2nd.

Capleton was Monday morning offered bail in the sum of $200,000 when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on a rape charge.

He has denied the allegations saying that the female accuser is lying and even tried to extort him. The superstar even filed a police report about the alleged extortion.

Bailey’s lawyer, Christopher Townsend has since cried foul and alleged that the entertainer is being extorted.

“We made a report to the police and we have been in contact with the police that we are being extorted and I gather that what occurred is that the young lady went and made a report also.

“We have heard several voice notes, there are several WhatsApp messages supporting our allegations of him being extorted,” claimed the lawyer.

The singer commands a large following in Zimbabwe and has filled up venues in his previous visits to the country.

His debut visit was in 2010 during which he celebrated the 2011 New Year holiday with his Zimbabwean fans and made another return in 2012.

If he is found guilty, the artist could face 10-15 years in prison for the crime.

“We said pay for any woman who made an impact in your life and before we knew it over 150 moms were attending, added Sisa Senkosi.

The event was mainly coordinated by Za Mpofu in Australia and Sithandazile Dube based ko Bulawayo and was overseen by Sisa Senkosi.

The organisers also decided to adopt the ladies who live at Entembeni Old peoples home.

“We raised funds as a group to have a meal delivered to them it was unfortunate that due to their advanced age we could not take them to Cresta with us,” she said.

“But we managed to get them a winter goody bag which consisted of a blanket and tennis shoes among other things.

Jackie Ngarande unveiled as Brand Ambassador for The Single Mother Foundation

Philanthropist and supermodel Jackie Tinovimbika Ngarande was over the weekend officially unveiled as the brand ambassador for The Single Mother Foundation.

The Single Mother Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose obligation is to equip, empower, educate, encourage and promote single mothers and their children to undertake perennial projects which will sustain them and their families.

It was founded by Australian based Flo Matambanadzo in January 2017.

Giving her acceptance speech Ms Ngarande highlighted the need for society to look at single mothers with the respect that they would accord any other person.

She also shared her childhood experience of being raised by a single mother.

“My mother lost her husband, my father when she was only 32 years of age, and it is that upbringing which gave me a first experience at the plight of single mothers,” she said.

Jackie Tinovimbika Ngarande

“Single mothers generally are more likely to be vulnerable in most aspects of life and they need to be empowered not just for a day for a lifetime if its possible,” she added.

Ngarande who is not new to charity work also assists more than 145 students with school fees through her Jackie Ngarande Foundation Educational Scheme.

In her role as the Single Mother Foundation Ambassador, she will be tasked with identifying empowerment projects for the ladies as well as coming up with strong structures to monitor their progress.

Currently, the foundation is targeting single mothers in Mabvuku and Marondera with plans to expand to other parts as resources allow.

” It is not uncommon that most single mothers are poorer because of various reasons and it is much harder for them to break out of the cycle of poverty so im hoping with my efforts we can assist a few to make something out of life,” she said.

“At the same time, we want to end the stereotyping that these women experience in societies, single mothers are always victimised for not having a husband, be it in church or elsewhere,” added Ms Ngarande

New Video: Gary Tight ft Dr Oliver Mtukudzi – Ndizarurire

They performed their monstrous collaboration before multitudes at the Mukanya Bira in April and now Gary Tight and Oliver Mtukudzi have decided to preserve the memory of it in a video.

It is a bridging of two generations suspending time to produce a timeless gem.

It’s huge alone to score a collaboration with world acclaimed superstar like Oliver Mtukudzi, but it’s, even more, greater if you can go a further step and record a video.

The video which opens up with a sleeping Gary Tight receiving a call to rush to the studio was shot partly inside the Pakare Paye studios.

One message which the video seems to impress most is the mentor/protege relationship that Gary Tight and Tuku have always had.

It shows an attentive Gary getting musical instructions from Tuku as they pen the song Ndizarurire, the song on its own, we believe deserves better marketing as it a monster hit but not many have heard it.
