Malaika wins World Supermodel 2016

There is no stopping for former Miss Zimbabwe Malaika Mushandu as she was crowned World Super Model at a glittering event held in Bloemfontein South Africa on Saturday.

The competition saw 40 models drawn from across the world battle it out for the coveted title.

Discovered and natured by Mercy Mushaninga of Zim Gossip Models, Mushandu became the youngest ever Miss Zimbabwe winner when she was crowned Queen at the age of 17 years in February 2011.

She then went on to achieve another milestone the same year when she was in the Top 10 of the Miss World pageant.

In 2012, Mushandu represented Zimbabwe in the Top Model pageant held in Germany and won First Runner Up.

World Supermodel International is a division of the World Supermodel Pageant, it is an International competition for models aged between 16-19 years and 20-30 years.

The event was created to find out who are the next and upcoming Supermodels.

This choreographed show reveals the world’s latest fashions and leading designers whilst showcasing and promoting each representatives Country’s culture and lifestyle to the rest of the world in an honest and fair competition.

The 10th edition of Harare’s Got Talent takes place this Saturday March 19 and as many as 20 acts are lined up to battle it out at the popular annual showcase for local performers.

This year’s event will be hosted at a new venue, Theo’s House of Coffees at 167 Enterprise Road, Chisipite, instead of the previous Reps Theatre venue, but – as before – the show is open to the public, who can come along to see just some of the wide range of talent that the city has to offer.

A spokesman for the organisers said the acts lined up included singers, dancers, singer-guitarists, an illusionist, a comedian and instrumentalists.

“We stage this show each year to provide a free platform to aspiring and current performers, enabling them to highlight what talents they have,” he said.

“Over the years many of the contestants have gone on to develop careers in the entertainment business, and we are hoping that among the members of the audience will be venue owners and show producers, who can see for themselves just what a wealth of genuine performance talent we have in Harare.

“Members of the public who wish to attend should be at the venue by 6.30pm, and as seating is limited they can do a telephone booking to ensure they have seats; they will need to call 0772 881877.”

MultiChoice Zimbabwe has come forward to provide sponsorship funding to cover costs of staging of the event, while Brands Africa will contribute product for prizes for event winners.

“Participants do not get paid for their participation, nor do they have to pay to be involved, but it gives them a free means of showcasing their talent, and we hope it will be both worthwhile for them and entertaining for the audience,” the spokesman said.

A team of judges will give feedback on each performance and will at the end of the evening select a winner and two runners-up, as a fun means of encouraging excellence on stage. Previous winners have included singers, singing groups, dance groups and comedy acts.

Wizkid’s Zimbabwe tour, Jnr Brown, Calvin to perfom

BET Award winner and Nigerian superstar Wizkid is set to perform in Zimbabwe for the first time. The show date is 8 April 2016 at the Old Hararians.

Wizkid will also share the stage with the country’s two top rappers, Jnr Brown and Calvin whose beef in Hip-hop dominated the news for quite a while.

Will the two be on their best behaviour following that scuffle at the NAMA Awards? Well the organisers can guarantee that the two will handle themselves professionally

“We cannot comment on what may or may not have happened at other events but we can assure there will be nothing untoward happening at the Wizkid show,” said their spokesperson Larry Kwirirayi

He added: “both are talented, professional and committed individuals who are aware of the responsibility they have to their fans.”

Other local acts include Judgment Yard, Mzoe 7, Dj Rax. Dj Storm. Dj Tafmiles. DJ Mellow T and Cynthia Mare.

Wizkid has a lot of number one hits under his belt and is a proven top performer, perhaps we could see more of his calibre in future shows.

The Miss World Zimbabwe Bootcamp which was supposed to have begun today (15 March 2016) has been suspended to a date yet to be announced.

Consequently, this also means that the grand finale which was set for the 16th of April 2016 at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Course will have to be rescheduled.

Here is why

Speaking to Zimbuzz, Miss Zimbabwe Trust spokesperson, Tendai Chirau said the change has been necessitated by requests from students who had failed to make it on time to the auditions that were held last month.

This means an extended period for those wanting to audition and also good news for those who are either out of the country or failed to travel to Bulawayo and Harare.

“Aspiring queens can visit our offices from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm until month end, those who can not (make it to the offices) can apply through our website,” he said.

Jibilika Dance Festival announces dates and theme for the 2016 edition

Zimbabwe’s premier annual youth dance festival Jibilika has announced the preliminary dates as well as the theme for this year marking the 9^th edition.

This year the festival will run under the theme ‘Empowered’ which comes from the ultimate goal of JIBILIKA and the festival since inception which is to empower young people with essential information, a voice and artistic skills.

The Festival Director Plot Mhako explains:

“We seek to empower dancers, enrich their art into a business and source of livelihood.

“It (the festival) will bring value and meaning to their passion and talent, the festival will also empower their voices to speak and be heard.”

He added that Jibilika 2016 will witness empowerment manifesting in different ways, that is Youth voice, Youth creativity, Youth energy and youth initiative.

This year’s preliminaries start on the 2^nd of April in Masvingo and ends on the 23^rd of July in Hwange. A single group will be selected to represent each province in the national grand finale and several individuals for the solo competitions.

The grand finale will run from the 26^th to the 27^th of August in Mutare.

Here are the proposed dates for the 2016 Jibilika Dance Festival preliminaries.

Masvingo – 2 April

Gweru – 16 April

Mutare – 30 April

Harare – 7 May

Bindura – 14 May

Here is some background information about the festival

Established in 2007 the festival runs with a new theme each year which defines the spirit, format and thrust of that year’s fiesta.

The festival selects 11 groups from each of the country’s 10 provinces and another one from Chitungwiza to take part in the national finals. The thrust of the event is to stimulate dance as a means to empower, build capacity and develop talent while entertaining.

The festival celebrates both urban and cultural dances and runs in a competition format. It also encourages various dance cultures with the thrust of enhancing cultural appreciation, growth, employment creation and youth engagement.

The project incorporates mentorship on various youth-related issues, training and development workshops in various communities, exhibitions and performances. The event is credited for revealing and endorsing a lot of dancers and groups locally and beyond the borders.

If you were one of those low-lifers planning on leaking your ex’s nude pictures you might want to reach for the delete button soon after reading this paragraph.

According to a report on Techzim, Zimbabwe’s Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs will this week be considering a petition to bar “revenge pornography”

The report also mentions that the anti-revenge porn petition was initiated by an NGO called Katswe Sisterhood

Here is a simple explanation

Boy meets girls, boy loves girl and girl love boy too..Within a few days (we were tempted to say hours) the love birds are already sending each other pictures, baring all of their private belongings.

Fast forward, boy and girl no longer feel for each other, and the other decides to “REVENGE” on the ex by leaking their nude pictures to all who have a memory card.
