Hello…it’s a million views for Taps Mugadza

Our lives were pretty normal, the earth was still round and we were still driving on the left side of the road until one Adele decided to call us…Our mistake was picking up the call.

And with a simple hello she entered our homes and ultimately our lives. That’s the power of music, that’s the power of Adele’s latest single titled Hello.

If you haven’t listed to the song your only excuse is that you had gone to Mars and just returned to this habitable place.

Several cover versions have flooded YouTube including one by legendary Joe Thomas.

America’s biggest entertainment channel E! on Monday listed Tap’s acoustic version on number 3 out of the best 20 Hello cover versions with Joe Thomas’ cover on 4th.

Buzzfeed listed him on number 4 and had this to say about him:

Taps version is honestly good enough to make you forget about the original. Almost.

And with a million views on YouTube our very own Tapiwa ‘Taps’ has written his own piece of history….that’s a million views from real people.

In fact by the time we wrote this article at 01:04am (CAT) he was sitting on 1, 054, 961.

For those who need a refresher Tapiwa Mugadza was that boy on the ZBC TV show CBZ A Academy some years back with a touching story about how as a little child he was abandoned at an orphanage doorstep.

He came third in the competition which was eventually won by Jonah.

He couldn’t contain his joy and shared this on his facebook account:

We actually did it people….We really did it…..My first million views. This will be a day I remember. I could never have done this without all of you. God bless you all. Thank you for making me feel like the luckiest person in the world.

WE LOVE YOU TOO TAPS

MisRed needs your help

Its not everyday that a style icon like  Misred asks for your input as far as how to dress. But in her Republic she believes in democracy, so she is offering you a once in a lifetime opportunity to help her choose her next hair colour.

The ZiFM presenter recently celebrated 2 years on radio and had a special message for her fans which we published  here.

So our guess is that the colour change has something to do with the anniversary.

Should she go black or blonde?

Send your comments to her Facebook  page here.

We chose blonde. Lests see which colour wins.

Celeb Crush: DJ Stavo the Kwekwe Hustler

So our ladies have been sending in their protests, they accuse us of not throwing in some eye candy for them.

One protest message screamed ‘hey they are good looking men in this country too’

This one is for you ladies.

Meet our first celebrity crush.. DJ Stavo the Kwekwe Hustler.

A man can never go wrong in white pairing up a white blazer, white shirt and adding a French navy jeans.

This is a definite do.

This clean slate is a plus when kept minimal to maintain the sophisticated well groomed gentlemen.

DJ Stavo’s look, paired up with the white watch completes the look giving it a well rounded gentleman.

The cap on the other hand was a risky experiment, for, if not worn properly tends to sharpen the look too much and it drifts away from the clean slate to a more edgy street wear funk.

But well fashion is all about pushing the boundaries. And the Kwekwe hustler did just that.

10 Things that Make You Leave a WhatsApp Group

Last time we spoke about the 10 Irritating WhatsApp Replies We Hate to Read but the irritation doesn’t end there, there is an issue of the WhatApp groups.

WhatsApp groups have helped in bringing us closer to our friends and family because we are constantly in contact with everyone. But, there are some annoying things and people that come with it.

This post is for every person who has dreamt about leaving a particular group because of various reasons.

Family!

Oh God, that word (on WhatsApp) itself is enough to make you feel like keeping your phone away! A single person adds the whole family but it is quite amusing to see everyone asking “Who’s this?” to every number. Shame that some don’t even have their closed ones’ numbers. And later, what great fun it is to discuss everyone’s lives! You choose to leave.
Flooding Messages!

You may have stopped getting a good night’s sleep because you have your phone pinging all the time! You were busy doing some work for 15 minutes, only 15 minutes! But still people had nothing better to do than talking in the group. I know, there’s an option of muting but the notifications just hurt your eyes! All you feel is, “Get me out of here!” Also, you so wish those chats could ever make sense!

Spamming Your Phone Gallery
You suddenly go to your phone gallery and realize that it is full of so many weird photos and videos. Motivational, funny jokes, stupid advertisements, just name it and you have it all in there!
Attack of the Smileys

This is for people who have overcome the stage of “Hi, How are you?”, “Who’s this?”, “Long time!”. The group suddenly goes dead for some time. One person takes an initiative and sends something. After that, all you see is the smiley war people are fighting. I mean, seriously, what did you learn in school?

The Well-wishing Continues!

This happens when the group is quite old, and everyone has discussed and gossiped about everything under the sun. There are only two messages you see in the group, which are, Good Morning and Good Night! You feel happy that everyone is getting a life of their own but at the same time, you feel no point in being a part of such a group.

We are Interested in your Life!

There are people who gossip about you behind your back. But, I am talking about those stalkers who will gossip about you, in front of you! You update your DP or a status, and the whole group starts discussing who the guy/girl with you is. They may have their own notions about you falling in love or going in depression, on the basis of your status. Hello, I am here and I don’t want to answer your questions!

A Better Place to Fight!

I didn’t have enough problems in my life so the group members decided to fight! Why can’t people just sort out their problems face-to-face? They will fight and the others will try to stop them! All I get is 300 messages, just because I am in this group and can’t leave!
Continuous Updates
Admit it that you must have had at least one group with people giving continuous updates about what they are eating, where they are, and don’t forget the famous, duck-faced selfies! Yes, we live our life too! But, away from our phones.
The People who Care
If you’re a person who is surviving in the group, only because you don’t want to hurt anyone; you’ll relate to this one. You keep ignoring the group because there’s nothing exciting about it! Plus, someone or the other keeps asking you the reasons of why you don’t talk in the group! Doesn’t this prompt you even more to leave the group?
The People who Never Existed for You
You have no say in who adds you in which group. Hence, you’re strangled in a place where there are people who never existed for you. Mind you, the feelings are mature! Either in school, college, or some trip; you never really bonded with some. Nevertheless, they are there and no matter what they always get on your nerves!

These were just some common reasons for leaving Whatsapp groups, while some may have different reasons on a personal level.

We know, it is hard to leave a group because you don’t want to be answerable to every person.

Finally, you decide to leave the group and you do! You give out a huge sigh of relief, but wait! Two minutes later, you’re added back! Unfortunately, you have to live with the ‘Mute’ option thereafter!

Castle Lite Extra Cold Block Party…5 things that we learnt

Star FM’s J Boss and ZiFM’s Captain Awesome

Harare partied and if they had been allowed to continue they still will be parting up to Monday.

So much fun was had.

This was the first Castle Lite show courtesy of Delta and to say it was a success is an understatement..it was a blockbuster.

The two roads leading to the roundabout at the Newlands Shopping centre were closed to allow Hararians to party.

ZiFM’s DJ Too Bad warmed up the party when he hosted the Dancehall Empire live on the Castle Lite stage.

Everything was just set for a perfect party; the beer was cold, the lighting, and the sound system.

Among great acts were Tehn Diamond who gave a flawless performance so did Kwekwe’s DJ Stavo, Rax the DJ,Pee-Kay,Jason Leroux threw some Electro dance Music after midnight,Judgement Yard never disappointed as usual.

Here’s what we learnt:

1. People are in need of innovative ways of having fun.

It doesn’t have to be another Jamaican artist or some over-priced American artist to give people a good time.

This was an open air show right in the middle of the road and people turned up in their hoards just to have drinks and listen to music. This is something Delta need to continue doing and perhaps consider doing it in other parts of the country.

2. Alcohol and order can co-exist.    Litres and litres of alcohol were swallowed on Saturday, delta made sure it was convenient to every pocket to down the holy waters. But here is the cool thing; even with more alcohol in their blood the crowd remained mature, orderly and violent free.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

3. It’s possible to have a street party and avoid litter.    My biggest concern with this street party was the litter it was going to leave in the streets. But I was impressed by the delta staff who were roaming inside the dancing crowds picking up little bits of litter, bottles, cans, plastic jars you name it. This they did from the time the first bottle of beer was opened and that was around mid afternoon. Litter was contained to minimum levels.

4. Next time you throw a party get J Boss and Captain Awesome to host it.   These two Djs kept the crowds entertained all night. Their chemistry on stage was just a marvel to watch as they hosted the show. For successive hours all they did was hype up the crowd and made sure the agenda of the night was strictly adhered to – which was to party!!! If you are throwing a party soon get these mavens to host it.

5. The city is endowed with beautiful sisters.   OK this we didn’t necessarily learn on Saturday but the mention is worth the repeat.

Ask Mono: Getting your name known

Ask Mono will be a series that we shall be running for some weeks to come. Questions are drawn from various facebook questions that are posed to Mono Mukundu by musicians. Mono will try to answer them to the best of his ability and knowldege.

Question from Munyaradzi Barnabas Tecnic Soka

As an upcoming artist you are supposed to hold shows for you to market and brand yourself so,

1) How will you organise those shows since you are not known to the public

2) Is it not expensive to organise those shows as an upcoming musician that it requires the help of promoters?

3) What if the promoters are not willing to work with someone who is not known….

Thank you

My Answer for question1&2:

I know the pain of organising shows usingazivikanwe and I wouldn’t advice anyone to do that, its a waste of time, money and energy would advice kuti munhu atange agadzira zita to a certain level, start by recording your music, take it ku radio,do videos, interviews etc then wozotanga kuita ma shows zita ravakuzivikanwa.

After recording your music, yarira pa radio, you can start by opening for well known artists as you gain experience. You can do that even pasina ma promoters, its easier if you work with a manager rather than trying to do everything wega, as i mentioned above, tanga wagadzira zita, kana zita ravapo even the promoters vanokutsvaga, why would they refuse to work with you uchivapinzira mari?

Answer for question3:

You don’t need a promoter to do a gig at smaller venues,ma promoters ndavazokwire bhazi ravakutofamba. Also remember kuti promoters are business people, they are there to make a profit,if your name is too small to attract a sizeable audience that will bring them money obviously they will not engange you, so instead yekuvagumbukira sort your side of the problem and push your name…so before you complain about promoters gadzira zita.
