Zim Woman ordered to pay £100K for cheating on Lover

A Zimbabwean ‘kept woman’ who was showered with luxury gifts by her fiance flung down her engagement ring in court after being ordered to repay him more than £100,000.

Nurse Trish Garikayi, 37, said she was a given a Porsche 911 and a £100,000 diamond bracelet from Aspreys by love-struck businessman, Wisdom Penfold, 58.

But Mr Penfold claimed their relationship turned sour after he caught her in bed with another man.

They pair ended up locked in a bitter court battle over money.

And  a judge at Central London County Court has ruled that she ‘misappropriated’ money Mr Penfold entrusted to her when blinded by love.

Miss Garikayi has been ordered to repay him £116,000, lawyers’ bills, plus a 20% share of her £340,000 home.

She earlier claimed to be a ‘kept woman’ and insisted that the money, like the luxury goods he lavished upon her, was a non-returnable gift.

But Judge Alexander Hill-Smith said she had her ‘eyes firmly on winning the case’ and ‘unhesitatingly preferred’ Mr Penfold’s account of events.

After the judge announced his decision, Miss Garikayi hurled her £2,500 engagement ring across the courtroom towards her ex-fiance.

Mr Penfold calmly picked up the discarded diamond band and handed it to his solicitor.

Earlier he accused her of spending over £200,000 of his money, which was supposed to go towards a home for the loved-up couple.

And now a judge has ruled that she ‘misappropriated’ money Mr Penfold (pictured outside Central London County Court) entrusted to her when blinded by love.

They met in a hospital cafe in 2009, but Mr Penfold claimed the ‘perfect’ relationship came to an end in 2015, when he caught her with another man.

He came home unexpectedly to find his younger lover with a doctor in the house, he told the judge.

The tree importer and exporter, of Lydia Park, Cranleigh, said the relationship was a ‘happy one’ for years and they got engaged in 2013.

But the weeping businessman was so shaken up by his ‘completely shocking discovery’ that Miss Garikayi had to take him to A&E, the court heard.

She claimed they split up earlier, in June 2015, because he had got together with another woman, with whom he now has a child.

Mr Penfold was still married to another woman when he first started seeing Miss Garikayi, but he said the marriage had ‘not been close’.

His wife was ‘comfortable’ with his new relationship, and Mr Penfold said: ‘I’ve never been unfaithful to anyone in my life’.

The court heard £218,000 had been paid into Miss Garikayi’s account after Mr Penfold sold two investment properties.

Insisting the money was a gift, she said that, throughout the relationship, ‘if I wanted something, I would get it’.

‘As far as the discussion I had with Wisdom, they were gifts to me,’ she told the judge.

‘We were in love, the relationship was strong at that point. So there was no need for me to question or query.’

Her solicitor, Chike Ezike, added: ‘The nature of the relationship was one where Mr Penfold bestowed and showered Miss Garikayi with lavish gifts.’

Treating her as a ‘kept woman’, he gave her a Porsche, a BMW and a Mercedes and the £100,000 bracelet, the court was told.

And they enjoyed high-end holidays together to Paris, Spain, Indonesia and Dubai, he added.

Mr Ezike claimed that Mr Penfold also ‘regularly gave her large sums of money’ with no expectation that she would ever pay him back.

But, denying that he had been so generous, Mr Penfold said: ‘I think if I gave £100,000 for a bracelet I would quite remember it.

‘I think it would be welded in my brain for the rest of my life.’

Black Friday Chaos Online as Websites Crash!!

Eager online shoppers have been left frustrated after websites crashed as thousands scrambled to bag bargains overnight on Black Friday.

Popular retailers’ websites were showing an error message as spenders attempted to get an early look dramatically reduced prices before shops opened this morning.

Frustrated customers described being “locked out” of websites as they hunted for sale items online to avoid the expected mad rush in stores.

One shopper trying to access GAME’s website overnight shared a screenshot on Twitter showing that he was behind more than 10,000 others trying to access the site.

Another shared her frustration as it appeared she was shown a holding page as she tried to use department store Debenhams site.

The message told her she was placed in a queue as the website was experiencing a “high amount of visitors”.

Ciara, who was trying to access the same site and shared an image of the same error message, wrote on the social media: “and the Black Friday madness has started. A queue to get onto a website.”

Another wrote: “I can’t believe I have to queue online!”, with another saying: “I thought the point of online shopping was to avoid the queues.”

More than two-fifths of shoppers in the UK are planning to spend in the Black Friday sales today amid warnings not to “get carried away by the hype”.

Some 42 per cent of Britons are looking forward to the event, and 22 per cent are specifically looking to buy Christmas presents – while 25 per cent are intending to shop on Cyber Monday, a survey by KPMG suggests.

Paul Martin, UK head of retail at KPMG, said: “Retail performance throughout the year has been dreary to say the least, and we’ve certainly had a shaky start to the all-important ‘golden quarter’.

“Retailers will naturally be keen to make the most of these events, and our survey would certainly suggest that consumers are gearing up for it.”

However, consumer group Which? said its over-arching message to shoppers this year was to not feel pressured into spending after finding that nine in 10 Black Friday deals last year were the same price or even cheaper at other times of the year.

It has urged consumers to be careful not to buy on impulse and instead research products and prices before spending in the sale.

Early indications suggest that Black Friday spending will dip for the first time this year since its arrival in the UK.

Consumers will spend £2.4 billion on deals in stores and online, down from last year’s £2.6 billion, according to the predictions from the Centre for Retail Research (CRR) and VoucherCodes.co.uk.

#2019Budget: What Prof Mthuli Ncube said about the Arts & Sports Sector

Finance and Economic Development Minister Prof. Mthuli Ncube in his 2019 budget announcement Thursday, said government will prioritise Sport and Recreation Promotion and Development.

In his speech Professor Ncube said the country’s facilities needed to catch up with the rest of the world.

“There is a deliberate intention to resuscitate and or develop multipurpose Sport and Recreation facilities throughout the country to attain world standards,” he said.

“This comes at a time when the nation is set to host the COSAFA and All Africa Games in 2019.”

He said the resuscitation will target major sport facilities which include Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex and Khumalo Hockey Stadium as a priority as it cascades to other towns.

The 2019 Budget allocated US$9.1 million for the development.

Turning to the Arts and Culture Promotion and Development Minister Ncube said that the Creative Cultural Industry practitioners require a conducive working environment to increase the quality of products needed to grow the export quota of Cultural and Creative goods and services.

“The target is to have at least one (1) Creative Culture Industry (CCI) space in the 73
Districts,” he said.

“This will result in employment creation for youths and women, improved house hold income and welfare, developed infrastructure and most importantly increased contribution of arts and culture to National Gross Domestic Product.

He also said that there was deliberate need to develop and support platforms that afford artists and communities’ with opportunities to interface, stimulate local economies, and drive domestic and cultural tourism.

“Further to the above, establishment of an Arts Development Fund will help grow the creative and cultural industry and increase the sector’s visibility by capacitating artists so that they initiate and implement viable projects.

He allocated US$1.5 million for establishment of an Arts Development Fund.

A total of $53.5 million was allocated to Kirsty Coventry’s ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation

The money will among other things cover for national teams expenses.
