My Zim Plate host Bernadette spreads love and treats at MultiChoice meet-and-greet

All the love and fun of Valentine’s Day surrounded a meet-and-greet hosted by MultiChoice Zimbabwe on Tuesday when My Zim Plate host Bernadette Mutangara dispensed chocolates and other treats for fans.

My Zim Plate is a new series on DStv’s Honey channel in which Bernadette introduces viewers across Africa to the culinary delights of Zimbabwe, and the meet-and-greet enabled people to find out more about the show, which launched earlier this month.

MultiChoice Zimbabwe publicity and public relations manager Liz Dziva said people were thrilled by the treats and the interaction with the TV host, with a strong interest in the show and its presenter.

“As it was Valentine’s Day we had a meet-and-greet at our offices in the PaSangano building in Avondale and at the Joina City Mall in the Harare CBD, so we invited Bernadette to offer delicacies from a chocolate fountain, as well as fruit and other sweet treats,” she said.

“During this delightful engagement, she promoted the show and many people were able to get to know her better. Our customers loved the Valentine’s treat and we had a lot of positive feedback.

Bernadette has been interested in food since she was 10 when she started baking and doing other forms of cooking.

Born and brought up in Kwekwe, her older sister, mother and grandmother taught her all about the ins and outs of cooking, and she used to cater for a range of family events.

My Zim Plate host Bernadette Mutangara meet-and-greet hosted by MultiChoice Zimbabwe

In the past five years, she has launched and developed a cake-making business called Munchies and Melodies, providing not just baked goodies and other culinary treats but also live entertainment, as she is a singer.

She is self-taught but has as much talent and energy as any trained chef and she sees no limit to where she can take her skills and interest. Her favourite food is sushi, while her favourite Zimbabwean dish is sadza rezviyo and tsine.

Bernadette is an excellent DStv fan, so the chance to present a show on DStv’s Honey channel thrilled her hugely.

Her own favourite shows include 7 Colours, My Perfect Wedding, Date My Family and Hudson and Rex.

My Zim Plate is running at present on the Honey Channel and is a dedicated show in which the focus is on food from Zimbabwe, with its unique ingredients, styles and preparation features of our cuisine will provide culinary thrills to viewers who really enjoy the cooking entertainment genre.”

The Honey Channel is on DStv channel 173 and features a wide range of lifestyle topics of interest to a range of viewer targets. It is available to viewers with DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact bouquets.

Morgan Heritage Releases Visualizer for Latest Single ‘Just A Number’, a Powerful Commentary on Cancel Culture

Reggae band Morgan Heritage has released a new visualizer for their latest single, ‘Just A Number.’

The song is a commentary on the topic of cancel culture and explores the fleeting nature of modern fame through a succession of public figures who have touched its third rail.

The visualizer comes after the release of the song’s official music video, which was directed by Samo and filmed at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

The band is known for their socially conscious music, and “Just A Number” is no exception.

Mojo Morgan, one of the band’s members, spoke about the song’s message, saying, “In a world where ‘cancel culture’ is present, we need the next generation of talented individuals to be made aware that actions have consequences.

As students of history, we know it is better to open minds than to close them. And that’s what we hope to do with this song.”

Morgan Heritage is made up of Peetah Morgan, Gramps Morgan, and Mr. Mojo Morgan, all children of the late reggae great and Father of A Nation, the Hon. Ras Denroy Morgan.

The band has won three Grammy Awards and is known for their ability to blend traditional reggae music with modern sounds.

The band has hinted at exciting news to come in the coming weeks, and fans are eagerly awaiting further announcements.

With their latest release, Morgan Heritage continues to bring attention to important social issues and uses their music as a platform for change.

CARE International and FANRPAN join hands to combat Climate Change impact on Agriculture

0

CARE International, the renowned humanitarian organization, has teamed up with the Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Analysis Network (FANRPAN) to launch the Takunda program.

This initiative is geared towards promoting sustainable, equitable, and resilient food, nutrition, and income security for the chronically vulnerable, the extremely poor, and those at risk of malnutrition.

The Takunda program is being implemented in two provinces, namely Masvingo (Chivi and Zaka districts) and Manicaland (Mutare and Buhera districts), in collaboration with the Agriculture Research Council (ARC), which serves as the Zimbabwe Country Node Hosting Institution.

Climate change is wrecking agricultural production in Africa and most parts of the world.

Production worth more than $45 billion is at risk, and subsistence is threatened due to crop failures and losses driven by rising temperatures, increasingly erratic rainfall, frequent weather extremes, and pest outbreaks.

Reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the scientific community point to the globally disastrous yet worsening outcomes of this change (such as food scarcity, natural disasters, death, conflicts, and stagnated economic growth).

Amid this global crisis, the adaptation capacities of farmers and agricultural enterprises remain weak, underlying the necessity of governments in Africa to collaborate and strategize a course of local climate action.

Delivering her opening remarks, the Chairperson of ARC, Dr. Unesu H. Ushewokunze-Obatolu, emphasized the importance of partnerships aimed at delivering positive change, especially programs that complemented existing government programs.

She said, “I am excited to see the government being represented at very senior levels. This shows that the issues that the Takunda program is dealing with, are important to our policymakers”.

The USAID-funded Takunda is a five-year Resilience Food Security Activity program that is being implemented by CARE International along with partners:

Bulawayo Projects Centre, Environment Africa, FHI360, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Youth Foundation (IYF), and Nutrition Action Zimbabwe (NAZ).

Mr. Patrick Sikana, Country Director at CARE International, added, “The conversations we are having to day are anchored on redefining how we as partners, meaningfully engage women, not just as producers of value but as equal sharers of value. It is also about how we, Development partners and the government of Zimbabwe, use the finite resources we have for greater impact.”

During his presentation to Government officials, partners, members of the humanitarian sector, and the media, Mr. Walter Mwasaa, the Program Director for Takunda at CARE, shared, “Takunda is a multisectoral program that needs the support of the Government of Zimbabwe, at all levels.

We are keen on support from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to facilitate the scale-up of good practices that surface during implementation.”

The program builds on the resilience of low-income people who may be chronically affected by climatic and economic shocks by working to achieve sustainable and equitable income from agriculture production, improve off- and non-farm livelihoods and create more opportunities for income-generating activities.

In a speech delivered on his behalf, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Dr. John Basera, expressed his approval of the Takunda program, saying:

“I am therefore delighted and expectant of the benefits to accrue from the partnership with the USAID-funded Takunda program as we jointly seek to improve the lives of people. I am hopeful that the program will generate useful models that we can extend to other parts of the country with similar challenges.”

At the same event, Mr. Moses Mhike, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, in a message read on his behalf, added:

“Let us take this opportunity as partners in gender programming to strengthen our workmanship and the way we conduct business, knowing that we can do more as a team.

Let’s exchange knowledge, ideas and tools on how best we can improve our work to attain gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.”

Mr. Ahmadou N’Diade, Deputy Office Director, representing USAID through the Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience (HAR) Zimbabwe, acknowledged, “USAID highly values the collaboration with the government of Zimbabwe, CARE International, and all Takunda’s stakeholders.

We would like to assure you of our commitment and support so that this project lives to its potential and that it reaches the development objectives it has set out to achieve.”

Mason Greenwood: Manchester United forward has all charges against him dropped

MASON Greenwood today had all charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against him dropped.

The Manchester United striker, 21, was first arrested in January last year after police swooped on his mansion.

Greenwood was due to stand trial in November accused of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.

The Crown Prosecution today confirmed they had dropped all charges against him.

A spokesperson said: “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review.

“In this case, a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.

“In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.

“We have explained our decision to all parties.

“We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.”

Greenwood last appeared in court in November where a trial date was set for November 23 this year.

The alleged offences related to one woman and were said to have taken place between November 1, 2018, and October 15, 2022.

Greenwood was accused of “repeatedly engaging” in controlling and coercive behaviour for almost four years – including making threats and derogatory comments on social media.

He was also charged with attempting to rape the woman on October 21, 2021, and allegedly assaulted her between December 12, 2021, and December 31, 2021.

The footballer was originally remanded in custody after being charged by police on October 15.

But a judge released him on the condition he does not contact witnesses, including the complainant, and resides at an address in Bowdon.

The striker also spent three nights in custody after he was arrested at his £15,000-a-month rented home in Trafford last January.

He was suspended from Utd but still received his £75,000-a-week salary.

Greenwood was removed from FIFA 22 and dropped by sponsors Nike in the wake of the allegations.

Football Manager 2022 also confirmed he would not feature in the game.

All merchandise bearing the No11’s name was axed from the official Utd site and teammates unfollowed him on Instagram.

Greenwood last played for the Red Devils on January 22 last year when the team beat West Ham 1-0.

The player joined the team aged just six and rose through the ranks to land himself a regular spot on the first team.

Making God Greater: An Interview with Pastor G on the Collaboration ‘MAGNIFY’

Pastor G, who recently collaborated with iconic gospel singer and worshiper Pastor Bonnie Deuschle on the song “Magnify,” shared his thoughts on worship and its significance in a recent interview.

Magnify which dropped last Friday also features Janet Manyowa and Tembalami together with the voices of Bernice Tianna Munyaradzi, Sarah Deuschle, Tommy Deuschle, Jonathan Deuschle, Taps Mugadza and Nigel Nyangombe.

According to Pastor G, worship is about making God the centre of everything and ascribing worth or value to Him.

“I believe that worship is about centring on whom God is in relation to us, putting God in his rightful place. The word worship itself comes from the word worth-ship, ascribing worth or value to something,” he explained.

“When you look at a song like Magnify, it talks about making God bigger and us, less.”

When it comes to the song “Magnify,” Pastor G sees it as a call to action for believers to put God back in the centre of their lives. He believes that in a world where people are often focused on making a name for themselves, worship is about making sure that God’s name and word increase above everything else.

“I believe the song Magnify is a rallying call to all believers to put the name of the Lord first, in light of the past Covid pandemic, it was a period of great tribulation, a period of great trial and testing for a lot of people, said Pastor G.

“We lost loved ones, we lost hope, and in some circumstances, we lost opportunities. So, magnify is a rallying call to say let’s put God back in the centre of our lives.”

Pastor G also shared his admiration for Pastor Bonnie Deuschle, whom he referred to as a mother in the gospel music community. He credited her with pioneering contemporary worship in Zimbabwe.

“I believe that Pastor Bonnie is a real mother in the sense that she pioneered contemporary worship in Zimbabwe by and large in terms of the contemporary sound of gospel music,” he revealed.

“So, she is a mother in that respect and one of the people who made it possible for a lot of us to then do that genre of music, so she is a mother to a lot of us worship leaders and gospel artists.”

Pastor Bonnie Deuschle is co-founder and co-pastor of Celebration Church, one of the largest in Zimbabwe along with her husband Tom.

Added Pastor G: “She has done a lot to show us how to make sure that we do music that is vertical; that points to God and not just our talents and gifts but to the name of Jesus as the answer and foundation for all life.”
