Movie review: Fast and Furious 8 – Too Fast To Catch

The eighth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise action series starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriquez and Jason Statham provided more thrills than most anticipated.

It turned out to be a Good Friday for Ster Kinekor Zimbabwe as the premiere sold out in all their cinemas across Harare.

Being the first Fast & Furious movie not featuring Paul Walker, who passed away in a car crash in 2015 the odds were against the cast to provide something more intriguing than Furious 7 provided.

The movie did just that.

As news started filtering in from Ster Kinekor that Sam Levy Cinema had sold out and enthusiasts were being directed to either Westage or 105, i knew the expectation was high on the shoulders of the new director F. Gary Gray (Straight Out of Compton)

To think that its been like 16 years and we still are hooked up to a movie built on a simple story of fast cars and the importance of a family is just but intriging.

Here is what you can expect.

Dom (Vin Diesel) goes rogue and betray the very family foundations which were the glue that stuck them together. But knowing how important family is to Dom, there is a very good reason why he would do that.

There is a new a family, probably one that’s more important to him that caused him to betray his other family and go to work for Cipher (Charlize Theron)

Cipher, is a hacker with an evil appetite to hack nuclear plant and destroy governments, she has something on Dom.

Things sprung into action with Dom and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) enjoying their honeymoon in Cuba, they bumped into their cousin whose car is about to be resposses for a debt, Dom intervened and asked to race for the  cancellation of the debt.

This is the only scene that provides us with a proper car race, with the otyher roles being high speed chases.

the roles of Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris are somewhat reduced in this instalment but its encouraging how sworn enemies Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and  Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) are forced by circumstances to work together.

What follows are spectacular stunts never seen before in Fast and Furious movie. Watch out for the scene when Cipher hacks every self-driving car in the city to cause unprecedented mayhem.

The movie is showing at all Ster Kinekor Cinemas and you better be Fast to catch It.

NEW MUSIC – Lamont Chitepo Feat Nuzak -Your Way

Award Winning UK based afro fusion artist Lamont Chitepo has released yet another hit featuring Nigerian singer Nuzak.

Lamont Chitepo

The single which dropped last Friday is a creatively made track, that seeks to trigger Lamont’s dispatch into the ever aggressive international market.

After the success of Maiwe which landed him rave reviews as well as a Male Artist of the Year at the Zimbabwe Music and Arts Awards (ZIMAA UK) 2016, the latest tune Your Way is certain to be yet another hit track.

Maiwe is nominated for the 2017  Music Video of the Year award at Zimbabwe Achievers Awards UK.

The song Your Way brings out his ability as a lyricist and great creator of danceable melodies giving it a delightful easy-to-listen-to taste.

He explains to Zimbuzz how the collabo came about, “My producer in Nigeria hooked us up with Nuzak who has also worked with Davido and other big guys, and he did the hook on the track.” he explained.

Lamont Chitepo

He has also launched an online dance challenge to the song.

“The dance challenge is a way to get people to have fun and for other people to also hear the song in the process. The winner of the challenges will be determined by a number of views, likes and shares their video gets and they will win £100 in a gift card at a U.K. Shop,” he said.

People from outside of the UK  can also participate and if they win the money will be sent to them.

It sees a returning Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) turning on his close-knit family of vehicle thieves, manipulated by a mysterious hacker known as Cipher (Charlize Theron).

Ster Kinekor has lined up different activities for its cinemans that will be premiering the movie.

Ster Kinekor Zimbabwe marketing manager, Ruzivo Chonyera told Zimbuzz that there would be brand new car displays, pimped car show and huge bikes showcasing.

What can the viewers expect?

“A movie to which the brake pedal is but a rumour. If you can’t abide the Fast franchise, you’ll be furious, but fans will have a nitrous oxide blast.”  – Chris Hewitt – Empire

“If this series, over the last 16 years, has taught us anything, it’s that just when you think it’s about to run out of gas, it gets outfitted with an even more elaborate fuel-injection system.”  – Owen Gleiberman – Variety

Kazz Releases Star Studded Music Video For Kudana Remix

The stars really are out in this video as Kazz teamed up with talented friends MC Bushkin, Bailey Browne, Mils and Marni in a star-studded Kudana UK Remix.

After the success of the original Kudana song, Kazz took on the supers of Uk to give us a far more glammed up version of the hit song.

Kazz speaks on the idea behind the star-studded line up “It was an opportunity to get into the music scene this side. The opportunity to open doors and get a Zimbo artist on the UK circuit,” he said.

The remix is especially surprising because it used the same beat as of the original track but still managed to sound completely different.

The song opens up with  North London artist MC Bushkin whose effortless dancehall deliveries managed to finesse its way into the song.

Kazz only retained the chorus and allowed the British guests to have a feast on the song.

Boomslang Productions latest recruit Marni rounds things up with his easy-to-love rap style.

MARNI

There’s just too much sauce on this song and it’s definitely something that you will pump up to for some time to come.

Rapper Dice Throws Another Dice

Dice’s musical journey tracks back as far as the 2000s when she collaborated with Roki on the track titled Rock.

Dice

Her latest track – Trouble featuring Donne talks about all the women who are holding their own and know how to be confident in themselves.

The song has a catchy chorus describing how a bad girl can be a troublemaker and get attention wherever she goes.

In true fashion of a dice, she shows that she can be thrown in any direction and as she have multiple resting positions.

This shows in the video having that classic look but midway it then flips the script and allows you to be in 2017 again with the poolside summer feel.

The video has some unique colour schemes as well as animation elements which make it visually captivating.

It gives one some interesting optical illusions and mind trickeries especially with the dancers pausing in mid air and some looking like they have frozen in time.

She also showed that she has a lot of celebfriends as she features appearances from rappers Sharky and Cal_Vin as well as the founding Editor of South African Hip Hop Magazine Darryl Nyamutsamba.

So many feels from this Dice offering,  the dances, the outfits, the rap bars, and of course the ladies in the pool.

Dice is that quintessential female rapper at the moment judging by the amount of quality work she is putting on. In the video, she hired the services of Award-winning stylist Craig Zoowie.

We can’t wait to see what this rapper has up her sleeve next.

Jibilika To Hold Auditions for the €50 000 DanceStar Championships

Zimbabwe will this year get a shot at the largest international dance competition DanceStar with Jibilika hosting the auditions this Tuesday 11 April 2017.

Jibilika Dance Trust in partnership with South African dance champion Paul Modjadji’s Breaking Down Borders will select Zimbabwe’s first representative to DanceStar at Jibilika Urban Culture Centre in Harare.

The auditions will start at 11 am at the Batanai Gardens located Centre (Corner First and Jason Moyo,Harare)

Modjadji made history by becoming the first dancer in Africa to win the European Dance Star World Championships in the solo Jazz category in 2011.

He has been on an African whirlwind with the Breaking Down Borders Africa Tour a pan-African dance tour that saw him make ten stops on the continent teaching dance and collaborating with young African civic leaders and artists

Paul Modjadji

The DanceStar World Tour is held in different countries around the world and the DanceStar Finals take place in Poreč, Croatia with the winner flying away with €50 000.

DanceStar is the No 1 Dance Competition in the world with a network of over 55 000 dancers across 55 countries.

The competition is open to dancers across the world who go through qualifying auditions in their countries to qualify for the finals at the World Masters in Croatia in May, annually.

Dance styles represented vary from classical ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, Broadway, musical theatre, to hip hop and folklore.

Speaking to Zimbuzz Nyaradzo Nhongonhema the new Jibilika creative director said the opportunity serves as a motivation to all dancers.

“As the performing arts industry, for a long time now we have been struggling to break into the international ‘market’ mostly because of lack of exposure,” she said.

“So having a dancer going to represent Zimbabwe in one of the world’s biggest dance contests is a huge mark in the industry.

“Besides putting Zimbabwe on the map, the mere representation itself is a sign that the dance sector is making progress.

“This opportunity also works as motivation to all the dancers out there, this is just one but many more opportunities such as this one will be coming,” she added.

She also said the selected candidate will be offered continuous dance sessions with trainers of different genres of dance to make sure that he or she gets in the best form to represent the country in the competition.
