It Was All High Fashion Stakes at the Zimbabwe Models Awards

The Zimbabwe Models Awards provided 2016 with a rare moment of fashion artistry as industry heads turned up in masterful garments for what could become the country’s premier awards ceremony in terms of excellence.

Whether you turned your head to the right, left or you looked back or in the front, it was just a sea of a rainbow and a galaxy of jewels, gold, silver and diamonds.

The fashion stakes were just too high it made difficult to come up with the best-dressed persons of the night, and the venue helped as well, as Pablo’z VIP is known for its strict adherence to excellence.

Awards Director and Founder Mercy Mushaninga really provided a reimagined approach to the previous ceremony with all winners walking away with carefully carved trophies and certificates.

The event kicked off right on time, only that the rains affected the red carpet moments but the venue inside was arranged in such a way that you could actually see what everyone was wearing.

Running under the theme ‘Remembering the Life of Our Heroin Kiki Divaris’ the ceremony provided with it exciting categories like most flamboyant personalities.

Business persons Genius Kadungure and Zodwa Mkandla were crowned Most Flamboyant male and female respectively.

Most Flamboyant Wedding went to the first famliy’s  Bona and Simba Chikore.

Univesity of Zimbabwe’s youngest graducate Maud Chifambe won Best trendsetter education whilst singer and fashionista Cindy Munyavi won Best trend setter fashion.

Model Michael Steve Reks Jacobsen  was the biggest winner of the night as he walked away with trophies in Best Fashion Male Model, Best Commercial Model, Most Educated Model and Model Of the Year.                    

The recently branded Miss Tourism Zimbabwe took away Best pageant.

Dream Star makes history as another Beatboxer is crowned Winner

Beatboxing left a mark on the Zimbabwean arts terrain on Saturday night as Mutare-based entertainer Tafara became the second beatboxer to win the Dream Star Zimbabwe finals.

This comes after another beatboxer Probeatz won the talent competition in 2015.

Tafara had the entire of HICC making a deafening noise with his smooth quick beatboxing skills.

What appears to have sealed the win for the youthful entertainer was his Fomula One race simulations.

One would believe that the whole of HICC had bought front row seats at the Monaco Grand Prix as he started to beatbox the Ferrari, Mclaren and Renault sounds that the open-wheel racing cars produce.

He executed it with such magnificence that it made a distinctive mental photo of a Sebastian Vettel or Lewis Hamilton driving the 8 cylinder car at 250km/h.

Tafara left with a money prize of $3 000, a trophy in addition to an all-expenses-paid trip to China.

Second and third prizes got pegged at $1 500 and $750 respectively, show director Steve Zhao also said that the winners will get academic scholarship and employment opportunities.

In the second position was a Those Guys Vacho a band comprising MSU students while Marondera based artist Prince came in the third spot.

Fusion 5 and vocalist Shylet came in at number four and five respectively.

This year’s DreamStar brought to us by Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe (CFZ) saw an increased number of entertainers and the competition was very tight.

The journey began on September 16 with concurrent auditions in Masvingo and Gweru as well as the rest of the 10 provinces being given a chance to each provide the best out of their cities and towns.

The grand finale took place at the Harare International Conference Centre and was characterised by such glamour and excellence.

All of the 14 finalists exhibited quality acts that left the judges board with such a difficult assignment to pick a champ, the judge’s panel included celebrated dancer Sandra Ndebele, Award Winning vocalist Cindy Munyavi, Star Fm breakfast host DJ Nikki among others.

The finale was graced by H.E. The Ambassador of China to Zimbabwe, Mr Huang Ping and different representatives from the Chinese business community

Jah Cure hints on Local Collaboration

Visiting Jamaican Lovers Rock singer Jah Cure gave us a hint yesterday that he was keen on doing a local collaboration as to uplift the genre of reggae and dancehall.

He gave this hint at a press conference held yesterday morning at the Rainbow Towers after a question had been posed by a journalist regards to doing local collaborations.

“Everything is possible right now but I’m here. And I’m not only here to sing for you but to make connections with every single one of you spiritually and physically,” he said to much laughter from the press.

“Incarceration taught me that if your works uplift people no matter how down you are, as a leader, you have to find solutions and that does not take away your mission.”

“So my brother here (holding Winky D by the shoulder) definitely I’m not gonna promising you anything but will see where the dance leads us and also my other brother (pointing to Trevor D who was seated far right)  I know there are other talents out there too so this is my first step on a journey of a thousand miles and I know I will be coming back again,” he said.

The Jamaican spoke at lengths about his incarceration and the lessons he had learnt during that dark period.

Meanwhile, two other supporting acts Trevor Dongo and Winky D have promised fans a new experience from their Friday acts.

Trevor Dongo said although he was an RnB singer, his music blends well with the genre of dancehall.

“Like you said I’m an RnB artist, the good thing about my music is that it has so much soul so it actually relates to conscious music and since I am a fan of conscious music it goes along very well,” he said.

Speaking on the same, Dancehall king Winky D says this time around he was going to perform tracks from his new album.

 “This time around as you all know that we have just released a new album its actually my first time to perform tracks from that album on a show of such magnitude,” said the Gafa.

“So it’s really going to be a different set up judging with the previous shows that I have done.”

‘I’m a Black Diamond’ says Ashley Morgen as she departs for the Miss Tourism World

Recently crowned Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Ashley Morgen this week left the country for the Miss Tourism World to be held at the Swiss Garden Hotel in Melaka, Malaysia.

At a farewell press conference held at the Ministry of Tourism offices in Harare, Ashley says she was ready to represent the country and all its cultures.

“I am proud to represent the Zimbabwe Tourism brand and promise to make the country proud at the world finals,” she said.

The well spoken Queen said she was a rare gem and that stood as one her outstanding features.

“I’m a Black Diamond,” she said enthusiastically. “I was born ready, I have been modelling for a long time and have been working toward this dream for years.”

This came after questions were posed as to the state of her preparedness since she was just crowned three weeks before leaving for the grand finale.

Speaking at the same ceremony Miss Tourism Zimbabwe patron Mrs Barbara Mzembi says she was confident Ashley would do well even though she had little time to prepare.

“I have been housing Ashley at my house to really prepare her for the Malaysia finals, and I’m impressed at how bright she is and she learns new things very quickly without any difficulty,” said Mrs Mzembi.

She also said that it was important for the country to have a representative at the Global stage.

It was also revealed that next year’s finals for the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe will be held earlier in the year so as to give the queen time to prepare during her reign.

The official handover of prizes for the 15 models who contested will be done on the 6th of January 2017.

December means it’s Awards Season and we are excited about the Zim Hip Hop Awards as they are more than just about trophies and speeches.

Once again the worlds of Hip-Hop and fashion collide tomorrow night and 1+1 Club will try and contain the explosion.

One thing about Hip Hop is that no one plays it safe, they turn up in some of the most eye-catching and the WTF attires and the red carpet will be lit this year.

Our resident Fashion Police will be out doing their business on the red carpet.

This year’s Official Red Carpet hosts will be the Fashion Couture team of Fashion Journalist Tafadzwa The Boss Zimoyo, musician Cindy Munyavi and Fashion Blogger Lilian Madyara aka Hollywood Lee.

As official hosts, Fashion Couture will be the only red carpet team on the Zim Hip Hop banner and we just can’t wait for the crazy fashion moments. 

Empire events will be doing event management as well as directing the red carpet and they are promising to produce a well-organised show in the award’s history which is in its sixth year now. 

Last year former Miss Zimbabwe and Pop Singer Queen Vee ignited the red carpet in this black-laced jumpsuit and knee-high Tom Fords Boots, she was crowned as the best-dressed female.

New Kid on the Block Tytan of the Mukoko fame gave us a shock and chagrined faces when during our research of the young celebrity we found a shocking and disturbing trademark.

Tytan loves his Cut Out Afro Orange Shirt so much he wore it twice to TWO different Awards shows,Zim Hip Hop and the ZIMA Awards. Fashion Police will be watching you closely Tytan.

Then there was the debate about Mudiwa and his Many Colours after he won best-dressed male, some argued he wore too many colures.

The rapper was clad in William Hunt Shoes , Happy socks by Angello Donatello, Shirt by Angelo Galasso and Giorgio Armani Trousers.

The Second edition of the Zimbabwe Models Awards takes Place this Friday at Pablo’z in Borrowdale where various players in the modelling industry will be rewared for their contributions.

Awards Founder and Director Mercy Mushaninga says they are ready to stage a memorable event.

A fashion showcase is also pencilled to take place during the show.

“Since it’s about Models, and Fashion we have two slots for designers showing their designs, Adrian Tate and Pabloz DJs for the after party,” she said.

“We want people to take modelling seriously, Models represent big brands, therefore the industry should be taken seriously.”

This year’s edition is dedicated to the late Patron of Miss Zimbabwe trust Kiki Divaris, and Mercy explains the contribution made by Kiki

“Kiki was our pillar, she represented the girl child in the modelling industry with a passion. She made it easier for us because of her support to the industry,” she explained

Cde Chinx to record a Gospel Album…Find Out What Heaven Means for the Chimurenga Singer

Revolutionary musician and songwriter, Comrade Chinx was advancing through life like any other citizen until an awful involvement with an obscure ailment had him so alarmed, he requested the Lord’s assistance.

The best-known chimurenga vocalist of his period, Cde Chinx, real name Dickson Chingaira Makoni enjoyed a career resurgence in 2000 with the ‘Hondo YeMinda Songs’ when the Government embarked on the land Reform, which we now refer to as the Third Chimurenga.

The excitement over Cde Chinx’s return to the studio to do some music is long overdue, however significantly more essential is that he is recording a gospel album.

Zimbuzz spoke to Cde Chinx at his home in Chitungwiza after a gathering of  ZANU PF Patriots made donations to the ailing singer.

ZANU PF Patriots is a  WhatsApp group of ZANU PF Cadres within and outside the country, the group discusses a number of issues pertaining to the national issues and is determined to transform itself into a trust.

“Baba na Mai ndivo va Mwari vekutanga padhuze neni kubva kuna Mwari chaiye, saka zvandinotaura nababa na Mai ndikataura naMwari sekunge ndiri kutaura nababa vangu nemusunungikiro wandinoita navo, ndinofunga Mwari anozvinzwa,” vakarondedzera Cde Chinx.

“My album will have six songs and I have already written them, amongst some of the songs are “Mwari Munogona” and “Izwi Renyu Haridonhi,” he added.

“As soon as i get a little better im hitting the studio, kuimba nziyo dzeNyika hadzina kusiyana ne nziyo dze Church, Nyika and Gospel are one thing nekuti handinamate ndisiri panyika,” he explained.

He continued with his hilarious analogies: “Ipo pano patakatsika apa titori denga resvosve,zvekuti tikatsika svosve ritotonzwa kuti pane chabva kudenga chanditsika.”

One of the Zanu-PF Patriots members Dr Masimba Mavaza is going to fund Cde Chinx’s recording including the shooting of the videos.

He spoke to Zimbuzz on what it means to preserve our music legacy.

“The legacy and the history of a nation lies in songs,music is inspirational ,a song lives in the mind of a person more than a book even the mind of an illiterate person,” he said.

Dr Masimba Mavaza who is based in the United Kingdom said he was leaving a payment of three thousand dollars to go towards video production.

Other members made donations of various food stuff and 200 birds for a poultry project.

Cde Chinx made a plea for assistance as he was struggling to keep up with the food demands of his medication. He says he is suffering from an unknown disease which the doctors have failed to diagnose.

Every Sunday Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa steps up to a packed Amphitheatre wearing top brands like Christian Dior, Prada,Saint Laurent just to name but a few.

Whether in a shawl lapel, full canvas lining or single-breast cut, the swagged-up preacher has mastered the art of not only looking smart but stylish as well.

This week he won the Most stylish gospel Influencer at the inargural Style Oracle Fashion Awards  (SOFA) that were held in Avondale at the Casa Mia.

 

Nominated in the same category were fellow clergymen Prophet Passion Java and Pastor Paul Adoghame.

Queen of Swagga Pokello Nare was also named as the Most stylish individual, she is also the owner of luxury designer footwear company ADDICTED 2 SHOES.

Herald Journalist and Fashion Writer Tafadzwa Zimoyo also won Best dressed media personality in a tightly contested category that included Napoleon Nyani (Napster), Rumbie Takawira (Newsbae) and Miss Red (ZiFM)

Musician Jah Prayzah also won Mst stylish Music Video but is award was broken by gospel rapper Mudiwa who received it on his behalf.

We love Mudiwa Hood. He is a fine rapper who never misses an opportunity to announce his presence, tragically for Mudiwa, he is also the sole holder of one of the most embarrassing celeb moments in Awards history.

At the ZIMA Awards in February of  2016,  he went up to the podium to accept Best RnB Award on behalf of Trevor Dongo who was en route to Canada on the night.

Soon the news got to Trevor Dongo that the Gospel rapper had received the award on his behalf, Trevor went all ballistic on Mudiwa, he vented on Twiter saying Mudiwa had no business accepting the award on his behalf.

Trevor Dongo received a backlash from the fans and he had to craft a makeshift apology saying it was, in fact, his Publicist who had posted the status update.

Anyhow, that moment was still embarrassing for our favourite gospel rapper.

Last night at the Style Oracle Fashion Awards (SOFA) held in Avondale, tough-guy hip-hop star Mudiwa proved to all and sundry why he still holds the top spot for the most embarrassing celebrity moment of all time when he went to collect Jah Prayzah’s Award.

Rumbie Newsbae was presenting the Award for Most Fashionable Music Video which was won by Jah Prayzah for Watora Mari hit.

After realising that there was no representative to collect the Award, Newsbae asked if anyone would like to receive it on Jah Prayzha’s behalf.

In full view of Zimbuzz up went Mudiwa hood who was looking sleek as always…While he was making his way, Newsbae seemed to have a premonition of the misfortune that would befall Mudiwa.

Said NewsBae: “ I hope this won’t be a repeat of the Trevor Dongo situation,” much to the amusement of the guests.

Soon as Mudiwa laid his hands on the Glass Award…it slipped and broke into pieces,much to his embarrassment.

Speaking to Zimbuzz, he explained, “When the Usher handed me the Award she was holding the wood part of it and I then held the glass part which was very slippery resulting in it dropping and breaking.”

At least such massive bloopers from celebrities make us feel normal because such fails always befall the ordinary us…
