Mary Chiwenga Pulls off a Sexy Grown-up Gothic look

Mary Chiwenga always brings her A-Game to state functions, this time around she pulled off a sexy grown-up gothic look that dominated fashion conversations on Friday.

Mary Mubaiwa                                                                                                                                                 Picture – Wonder Images

Her latest look which she rocked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration last Friday, November 24, shows just how intelligently stylish this former supermodel is.

Mary turned a goth look from just a throwback to a more modern and wearable trend. Let’s take a look at her combination.

Skirt – The General’s bae dazzled in a Pranksta High waisted cut with a corset-like Gothic Rivet Studded skirt.

Shoes – To add a flirty-sexy look to the outfit  The Miss Zimbabwe Trust Chairperson went for the timeless leopard print shoe.  The print is always a season’s hottest trend and who better remind you than the fashionista herself.

Blouse – To complete her look and tone down the goth look into a corporate wearable, she tucked in this Long Sleeve Turtle Neck Top accessorised by a gorgeous neckpiece with bracelets on both sides of her hand.

Hairstyle – Perphaps the stunning of all her style choices was this cool upscale Cornrows hairstyle. Cornrows designs have taken off to another level in this world today.

Mary takes this centuries-old hairstyle and gives it her own extraordinary style, flavour, and a portion of the coolest outlines imaginable.

Fungisai Smuggles Mahewu onto a Plane

We have heard and watched on TV crazy things people have tried to sneak past airport security from loaded firearms, live fish, snakes, monkeys and a human corpse.

Fungisai proud of herself after smuggling 400ml of Mahewu onto a plane

Our very own drama queen, gospel musician Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave is proud of her criminal deed after she ‘successfully’ smuggled a 400ml bottle of Premier Plus Mahewu.

Fungissai who was Wednesday leaving for Lagos Nigeria celebrated her mischief on Facebook by posting a picture of herself with the baobab flavoured mahewu bottle.

“Successfully smuggled a 400ml Maheu bottle into a plane. kkkkk OMG!!! I knew if I asked them for maheu parwendo they wld ask kuti chii chinonzi maheu???? Its a Top Notch Zim kind of a drink, good for my health,” she said.

Airport rules are strict when it comes to the amount of liquid one can carry on their hand luggage, usually its 100ml or 3.4 ounces.

The regulation was introduced in 2006 after the British Police uncovered a terrorist plot to detonate liquid explosives carried on board seven airliners travelling from the United Kingdom to the United States and Canada.

Popularly known as the ‘2006 transatlantic aircraft plot’, it was foiled by the British police well in advance but led to the implementation of tight security measures at airports everywhere.

It is believed that a British man from Birmingham, Ahmed Ali, mediated the connection between the plotters and Al-Qaeda. When police opened his baggage, they found a powdered soft drink, Tang, and a large number of batteries, which raised alarm among the authorities.

It was later discovered that the culprits were constructing bomb-devices using drink bottles, which they planned to detonate on the plane.

Fungai attracted a lot of criticism from people who follow her page with many disappointed that a public figure like her would find no shame or wrong in doing yet alone celebrating such a security risk deed.

An interesting comment came from Luckiey Maganda who is Aviation Expert Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe who warned her that she was now under ‘Watchlist’

“We have put you on a watchlist. Next time you travel don’t complain about being abused. We will be more thorough to make sure you don’t smuggle again. Mark my words,” he wrote.

Kutonga Kwaro — Prophecy Fulfilled

With tension in the ruling party at fever pitch, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces found no shortage reasons to be disgruntled and redeem the hoi polloi who have become the collateral damage.

The Zimbabwean narrative had now become that of a world where rent goes up while paychecks remain the same, gluten oppression, incessant roadblocks, fluctuating gas prices, potholes, liquor laws, unbreathable air socially, sexual politics, rampant corruption, resolute ‘game of thrones’, cash sales – the list is endless.

So it was in season as worse as this that in an unanticipated twist of things the army besieged the national broadcaster ZBC and announced that they were embarking on an operation to detox some heinous elements in the president’s closet.

And as the old adage goes, misery loves company but uprisings or rebellions loves music, the indomitable army found a soundtrack to their actions, or to be politically correct, it was the public who celebrated them with one.

The song was and still is Kutonga Kwaro by Mukudzei Mukombe famously known as Jah Prayzah, a willowy looking young man who at one time had the ambition to serve in the army but contemplated on music over everything.

It was released sometime in October but waited until the second half of November to finally be ubiquitous.

Everyone who attended the solidarity march on Saturday 19 November 2017 could attest that it was all you hear all day from any angle and on a side note they can also tell you that it was wavy and historic.

People couldn’t help but grin or even cheer whenever the song was playing and marchers were showcasing their placards that carries the ‘General Bae Chiwenga’s face on it.

It was like Jah Prayzah specifically had the picture of what was going to happen in his mind when he created the song, like a prophecy.

Jah Prayzah

Our instincts could be faulted, but there couldn’t be a feasible explanation of how the song and the bloodless transition, might have played out.

Maybe the song just captured the growing fury and frustration of the army and catalysed the uprising, or Jah absentmindedly just tapped into something that was already developing organically in Zimbabwe.

We just hope we have all the answers.

For Jah Prayzah the most exciting side benefit is having your song in the centre of a revolution. That alone deserves a Grammy, even if you’re far away from its reach.

So with Kutonga Kwaro, we all can say Jah made a perfect soundtrack for the Zimbabwean situation. He might have downplayed the army training a decade or so years ago, but this feels like serving in the army still runs in his DNA.

Today, November 24, Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa was sworn in as Zimbabwe’s new President fulfilling a prophecy that a young boy from Uzumba delivered in the form a song.

A lot is expected of President Mnangagwa as promised in the Prophetic Song.

Congratulations Mr President Sir.

How Young DLC became a Coke Studio Africa Producer

Young, ambitious and talented, Zimbabwe-born dance producer and Dj, Young DLC is known as the “accidental” or rather “lucky” Coke Studio participant.

Young DLC at Coke Studio

How he earned that title is a story of legends, more like it was taken from a TV show script.

One June morning in 2takenoung DLC had a meeting at Sony ATV, a publishing company in Johannesburg, near Auckland Park (SABC Headquarters).

The Sony meeting itself was not by appointment; it was that brave hustler moves in him, where he literary knocked on doors looking for opportunities.

Young DLC was to later walk into a building formerly occupied by MiCASA a popular South African house music group who had recently started their own music record label.

Unbeknown to Young DLC, Micasa had moved out and there was a new tenant! Young DLC introduced himself and told the new tenants that he was a music producer from Zimbabwe.

That sparked interest in his works and by the time he was back to Pretoria, from Johannesburg, Young DLC had an offer in his hands. Young DLC was going to guest produce on Coke Studio South Africa.

“ It was unbelievable, that was my first big break. I never really saw that happening, neither did I know how it works for one to be on Coke Studio,” says Young DLC with a smile.

“There I was, totally unknown and with the prospect of working with an established artist.”

Young DLC went on to work on Coke Studio with Durban Hip Hop artist Aewon Wolf and Jade McDonald.

They produced a pretty good dance song, which was playlisted on all commercial radio stations in South Africa including 5fm.

Young DLC

In 2017, Young DLC was called up by the Producers of Coke Studio Africa to be an in-house producer for the whole season.

Yes, a Zimbabwean 20-year-old who came to South Africa with no connections in the industry whatsoever, had doors and opportunities opening for him.

He went to Nairobi, Kenya where he spent a good 3 months doing all remixes and covers for the show.

The Zimbabwean star is the one who did the opening sequence music for the Coke Studio Africa 2017, a feat he always says is his “biggest break so far.”

Young DLC is currently involved in a few exciting projects and also in talks with one of the major International Labels.

“His future is bright. Have never worked with anyone so focused and disciplined like Young DLC. I would not be surprised to have him producing for the world’s biggest artists within next 2 years, especially with his ever-growing influence in African music circles. The young man is gold, raw talent like that is hard to come across” enthused his manager, Tendai Joe.

Scores give Jah Prayzah a Triumphant Welcome

Zimbabwe’s top musician Jah Prayzah this afternoon received a triumphant welcome from scores of fans who gathered at the airport.

Jah Prayzah who touched down at 1200hrs was in Australian when Zimbabwe Military and the general people led a revolution that resulted in the resignation of President Mugabe.

It was his song Kutonga Kwaro which got a new life and became the soundtrack of Zimbabwe’s revolution but the authour of the song was away on business and said he wished he was there with the masses.

Fans of Jah Prayzah gathered at the Joina City around 1030 am where two luxury buses were waiting for them including some private cars.

Along the way it was all jubilance as passersby waved at the buses and the private cars, the bus that this reporter was in had to make several stops on its way to the airport as more and more people hopped in on the joy train.

It was the same for the other bus and various private cars.

Their own hero was returning and the fans wanted to thank him for penning a prophetic song that gave birth to a new Zimbabwe.

Placards with various messages were being waved at the airport, some read ‘We Missed You Jah’, ‘Kutonga Kwaro’, ‘Welcome MTM General’, ‘Soja Rinosvika Kure’ amongst many, while others decided to have different messages on their t-shirts.

“All my shows in Australia where packed to capacity and Zimbabweans where overjoyed (referring to the military intervention) I have never seen such love,” said Jah Prayzah

“I’m happy with the way people have embraced my music and my album Kutonga Kwaro. Releasing such an album was not an easy task especially coming on the backdrop of a successful album like Mudhara Vachauya.”

He also said there was never a time he missed home more than the past week, especially after seeing what was happening home on the internet.

Jah Prayzah said when he wrote Kutonga Kwaro for him it was just music and he had no idea how people would receive the song.

“When you write a song you just write as an artist without any premonition of people’s expectations and how it would speak to their lives,” he said.

However, asked about how he felt about the President’s resignation he decided to be modest about it.

“As a musician, i cant comment on politics, all I can do is focus on my speciality which is making music,” he said.

Update: Tekno Show to Go on as Scheduled

Triplife Entertainment has announced that the Tekno gig scheduled for this Friday will go ahead as scheduled.

Lunchtime the organisers issued a statement citing safety of fans among other concerns as the reason for postponing the show this they say has been fixed and fans of Tekno should look forward to a great show.

Below is the statement sent to us

Following our announcement of a deferral of our show to a later date citing advice proffered by our on-site engineer, we have since rectified the concern.

We are pleased to inform you that the Tekno show scheduled for Friday, November 24 will STILL go ahead AS PLANNED. We heeded the concerns of the fans who implored us to fix the concerns.

Please note that we will announce early bird ticket selling points as soon as possible and look forward to hosting our fans in what should be an epic entertainment extravaganza.

Thanking you and hoping to see you this Friday, November 24 at Alexandra Sports Club. Patrick Vijay Hundu: For and on behalf of Triplife Entertainment.

Triplife Cancels Tekno Show, Here is Why

Organisers of the Tekno Show Triplife Entertainment have cancelled the gig which was scheduled to take place this  Friday, November 24, 2017, at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare.

Tekno

In a statement released this afternoon, they cited the ‘safety of the fans’ as a chief reason for the postponement of the gig.

“Fellow Zimbabweans; due to unforeseen circumstances, we have been forced, by mutual consent with the artiste Tekno and other artistes on the bill, to move the show initially slated for Alexandra Sports Club on Friday, November 24, 2017, to another date,” read the statement.

“While we had been adequately covered for the weather factor, other electrical logistics to ensure the smooth running of the event without projected rain being an impediment have arisen. We have absolutely no control over these factors.

“As they can affect the technical aspect of the show and safety of the fans, the artiste has agreed to move the event to a later date when an indoors venue has been secured to ensure a smooth, unhindered and safe event,” added the statement.

Tekno is however scheduled to perform in the country sometime in February next year for a Valentine’s Day show as it is the closest date that he will be available for a gig.

“In that spirit, the show shall adopt a Valentine’s theme and will, therefore, be held on February 16 of 2018 at the Harare International Conference Centre. This is the earliest convenience that the main artiste Tekno, can be available for a deferral,” promised the organisers.

UPDATE: Tekno Harare Show To Go Ahead as Planned

Following the Military intervention last week to save the country from economic collapse which was being spearheaded by a Grace Mugabe-led faction, speculation was high that her sons were behind the gig.

This saw various people advocating for the boycott of the show saying the Mugabe Sons had benefited from stolen funds.

The calls grew after the military solidarity march on Saturday where people called for the resignation of President Mugabe

However, their involvement in the show is not clear although they have posted pictures about the Triplife gigs on their social media accounts.

Below is the full Statement from the organisers

Fellow Zimbabweans; due to unforeseen circumstances, we have been forced, by mutual consent with the artiste Tekno and other artistes on the bill, to move the show initially slated for Alexandra Sports Club on Friday November 24, 2017, to another date.

While we had been adequately covered for the weather factor, other electrical logistics to ensure the smooth running of the event without projected rain being an impediment have arisen. We have absolutely no control over these factors.

As they can affect the technical aspect of the show and safety of the fans, the artiste has agreed to move the event to a later date when an indoors venue has been secured to ensure a smooth, unhindered and safe event.
In that spirit, the show shall adopt a Valentine’s theme and will therefore be held on February 16 of 2018 at the Harare International Conference Centre.

This is the earliest convenience that the main artiste Tekno, can be available for a deferral.
We shall continue to liaise with the local artistes previously on the billing to ensure their schedule has them free to perform on the said date.

In the meantime, in line with our ever growing desire to see world class entertainment brought to our shores, we are currently in negotiations with other international acts whose schedules are free, to try and secure festive season shows for the benefit of our supporters and music lovers in general before the end of this year, logistics permitting.

As the obstacles we faced were of a purely health and safety matter, we realised that the safety of the crowd comes way ahead of any other concerns and our electrical engineers are happy we have taken this bold, although unfortunate decision based on their advice.

We apologise for any inconvenience these changes may have caused and look forward to a continued strong relationship and creating a formidable growth trajectory in promoting the arts for both local and international artistes.

With profound thanks;
