Minnie Dlamini

Minnie broke into prominence in 2010 when she beat thousands of hopefuls in the nationwide search for a young and sassy presenter for one of South Africa’s biggest music shows.

Within months, Minnie also landed a role as the sassy Miranda on the popular soap Generations, a role which opened her up to a bigger, Pan-African audience.

Top 5 Videos we can’t wait to see

2016 has been a banging musical year so far with unexpected collaborations and hard-hitting singles, but sometimes a song deserves  a visual representation and below are some of the songs that are on our Video wish list. Some have already been rumored to be in works so Fingers crossed everybody!

5.   Mari Mari by Queen Vee and Souljah Love

jahqueen

This song has been received generally well by the people because it was an unorthodox coupling. The Zimdancehall Bad boy and the Classy Supermodel. Is the video going to involve twerking and clarks?  Or will it take the Hip Hop cliché route of throwing around money or will it just be a sober video?

We saw at the ZIMAs that Queen Vee can dance and put up a great performance and we are hoping against hope that they do a Video. Please note Twerking Souljah love and Clark stepping Queen Vee..Or is that Vice Versa?

   4.  Gloria – You will Shine ( Performed By Sebastian Magacha, Jah Prayzah, Sulu Chimbetu,      Alaina, Shinsoman, Selmor Mutukudzi )

In a ‘Heal the World’ move, Gloria released a song on the 1st of March, which has a strong message about believing in yourself and ultimately  shining  ( Just like the Self Raising flour they sell…we see you, Gloria). The artists line up who perform the song are quite impressive, Jah Prayzah, Sulu, Selmor, Saba, Alaina and Shinso are all talented and great artists in their own genres.

Their uniqueness combined makes for a great sing-along song..once you get over the fact that you likening yourself to flour. We hope Gloria drops a video as soon as they are done with the tour. We want to see the gelling of all these artists on one screen reflecting their differences that make them so so special.

3.   Mukoko – Ammara Brown and Tytan

IMG_5753

This Love song blew us all away when it came out, has the perfect  chorus that hits you right in the feels and gives you that “I’m the best “ feeling in a totally unassuming way ( Hona Kunaka, Mukoko, Mukoko ).

The Dance set performance of this song is pure Fire and we DEMAND a video Ammara we need to see those Africa salsa steps again so that we incorporate them into our wedding sets. The team also suggested that there should be Bees..lots and lots of bees spelling out Ammara but we were just dreaming at this point.

  2.   Tongogara – Jnr Brown

Flag of The Chinese Communist Party
The symbol which Jnr Brown has been using to promote his single Tongogara

That Raspy voice which accompanies Deep social conscious lyrics that subtly call out the class divide in our society today can only be made better by a Visual representation. By now almost everyone can sing along to Tongogara and you have seen the Onset Pictures from various players.

Some might already have the Tshirt( Dear Santa I would really like a Purple Tongogara Tee this year). Surely this Movement can only be made better by a Video. So our Notifications are On … Our wifi Bundles on point we are waiting anxiously for that Video Mr Brown.

     1.  Vanondibatsirana – Killer T and Fungisai

Or maybe as you know it Daidzai Vakuru, This is most arguably the biggest and most talked about Song this year. I mean with all the talk that Fungisai dropped her “Gospel” genre title and that she has taken up a more errm Royal genre (Empress F…Never mind).

It’s a hit song No Doubt about it, and from the pictures below it look like the Video will be a Hit too. It has Bikes and Status cars and Killer T and Fungisai coordinating their outfits #Yess #Slaying.

Video: Trey XL – Live life

Rapper Trey XL has released a new video for his single Live Life..The song talks about how the rapper intends to live his life to the fullest and how the rap game will be different because “I was here.”

The video was mostly shot at Limbe Market in Blantyre, Malawi by Chipiliro Khonje.

“Live life is just my honest interpretation of a day in the life of Trey Xl,” he told Zimbuzz.

Watch the video below and tell us what you think:

Mudiwa,Stunner bromance – we saw it coming

Our two favorite rappers Stunner  and Mudiwa have reconciled made peace buried the hatchet, reinforced their love for each other on Instagram and Facebook. Stunner was the one who extended the Olive branch by asking the big question that we have all itched to ask since the beginning of this squabble

Why do we fight nhai Mr Hood??

And further declared that from that day (28 February 2016) they were now Bros, because as he eloquently put it they are both sponsored by the same company, they are show-offs, evidenced by the strategic holding of the Merc keys in the picture below

"we are both rappers , likers of things , hated and feared by those that can't be us"
“we are both rappers, likers of things, hated and feared by those that can’t be us”

During the ZIMA awards, the two were captured by Zimbuzz photographers having what seemed to be a very deep conversation.

See the pics below

But anyway Mudiwa put his stamp on Stunner’s Message by declaring that Love and Encouragement was the one thing he would love to see more in the Music Industry ( Subtle Dig at Trevor’s outburst last week?)  He didn’t however respond to why the rappers fight in first place.

Stunner and Mudiwa’s “beef” origin is murky and shrouded in mystery, but their social media punches and sub bars in hit songs have been a source of entertainment for many over the years. One might argue that they have kept each other relevant by their Make-up-to-break-up relationship.

I guess we will just have to be content that the hitmakers have decided to make peace and wait and see how long it lasts, this time. We hope that this means a collabo  in the near future, Yes?No? Maybe?

Old Mutual to be the official sponsor for the JWT U20

Old Mutual continued their partnership with junior rugby as they launched their 2016 sponsorship program and also added along tag rugby.

By Larry Trusida

The diversified group will be the official sponsor of the Under 20 Junior Sables and the World Rugby Under 20 Trophy 2016 that is scheduled for Harare from 19 April to 1 May.

Old Mutual ground CEO, Mr Jonas Mushosho said that they wanted mass participation and they aim at bridging the race gap since back in the days, rugby was not for all.

“The dip in performance indicates that most of the black majority were previously excluded from rugby,” he said.

“Our sponsorship aims to, therefore, support the previously marginalised majority.”

World-cup-rugby-U20

He also indicated that their partnership has been growing since its inception 2 years ago.

“Old Mutual Zimbabwe’s relationship with rugby started in 2014, when, together with the Zimbabwe Rugby Union, we launched the Old Mutual Rugby Development Programme and the Old Mutual National Schools Select Rugby Sponsorship in 2014.

The Old Mutual Development Programme started at four centres in 2014 and expanded to nine centres and 16 communities in 2015, with over 50 schools participating.

“An estimated 2500 boys and girls participated in the programme in 2015, compared to 1600 in 2014,” said Mr Mushosho.

When the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Honorable Makhosini Hlongwane met the Zimbabwe Rugby Union board a couple of months ago he indicated three areas that were of concern; the Junior World Cup Trophy (JWT), the development of the game and the national league, out of these three old Mutual has addressed the first two by sponsoring the Young Sables and Tag rugby.

Honorable Hlongwane said that mass participation was crucial in the development of Sport in Zimbabwe and Old Mutual has done so much to address that by taking rugby to communities.

“Associations should be available in communities and that is not possible without the corporate support, Old Mutual has been bridging that gap and we applaud them for their support in various sports,” he said.

EXCLUSIVE: We will not be entering Awards again – Reverend Chivaviro

“We thank God for the reception we got for our song which touched from the little 2-year-olds to the President of the nation.”

Reverend TT Chivaviro has made a bold declaration and said that they will not be entering their music in any Awards competition.

In an exclusive interview with Zimbuzz , the Ebenezer hit-maker felt that God was communicating something to them.

His concerns come after losing the Song of the Year award to Wink D’s Disappear– a song which fell out of the required cut-off date of consideration, which according to ZIMA is August of the previous year to August of present Year.

Rev Chivaviro

“I think God is saying something to us about this award thing because the same happened at NAMA, our music should just be for spreading the gospel to all nations, our satisfaction should come when people get touched by our music, hearts uplifted, souls healed etc, and I’m sure we will not be entering these things again, we have since asked our manager not to enter us for awards in future,” he said.

“We thank God for the reception we got for our song which touched from the little 2-year-olds to the President of the nation,” he added.

An official from ZIMA, Farai Chapoterera also conceded to this fact when asked by journalists about this anomaly and she said they included Winky D’s song because “We knew that the public was not going to understand it if Disappear was not included in the category…”

Asked what God was saying to them Rev Chivaviro said: “God is saying our main calling is not for music that wins awards but for music that touches and transforms lives.”

He also said that this should not be seen as jealousy or an issue of sour grapes especially after also losing out to Mathias Mhere in the Traditional Gospel Music category

“Mathias is a young brother to me and we have been chatting even this morning (yesterday) about my launch on Wednesday which he is attending, I even congratulated him on winning,” he explained

“I see this as lessons to me rather, God speaks in different ways to different people and these NAMA and ZIMA happenings were a big lesson to me in particular.”

Meanwhile, Rev Chivaviro will be launching the sequel to Ebenezer this Wednesday, 2 March at the Anglican Cathedral in Harare.

Titled ‘Mhepo Inoperekedza- Tiri Munyasha Part 2’, the launch starts at 0530 pm.

ZIMA Awards – 5 things that we learned

The Zimbabwe Music Awards remains the only platform that honours music from almost all of its genres.

It was refreshing to see the Awards coming back in 2014 after a long hiatus, obviously owing to chronic financial challenges that the county has been facing.

A vision of one passionate man, its chairman Mr Joseph Nyadzayo, the  awards are back to honour the men and women who sometimes toil in this thankless job but don’t tire in giving us a song to entertain us, console, celebrate and sometimes cry with.

Here are the 5 things that we learned

ZIMA is the only premier awards show in the country

Forget all these other mushrooming Awards ceremonies, ZIMA still is the real deal in terms of entertainment value.

NAMA only comes a ‘distant’ second.

We also should note that the emergence of these other awards shows was necessitated by ZIMA’s absence but still couldn’t attract the same attention as does ZIMA.

Even with all the negativity and shaming it receives; we still look forward to it, dress for it and want it.

However, whoever was responsible for the red carpet bungling should receive a sharp rebuke and possibly a final warning. That kind of disrespect for our celebrities is colonial and unacceptable.

We need new Mcs/Hosts

Candice and Tich Mataz were a perfect disaster to be polite. The cohesion wasn’t there.

Tich is now too old for this and has lost his golden touch.

And Candice was angry the whole night; if you are a host of a show then you need to learn to tolerate dissenting voices that come via Twitter.

People shouldn’t be forced to agree with what you believe in.

Let’s try giving our hosts a written and rehearsed script or better still let’s have a comedian host ZIMA8.

Alick Macheso needs to release an album today

I think we are now tired of the lack of competition against Jah Prayzah and Sulu Chimbetu in their respective genres.

With Tuku not being nominated and Peter Moyo failing to reproduce his father’s magic, sungura is now dead.

This means that Macheso now has to stand up and provide real competition.

Dear Baba Sharo, please release Tsoka Dzerwendo as soon as you read this.

Reverend Chivaviro should be feeling robbed

This has to be the biggest controversy of the night as Ebenezer lost to a song which was released outside of the ZIMA cut off dates.

During a press conference at the Rainbow Towers, an official from ZIMA, Farai Chapoterera had to give an unsatisfactory explanation of why Disappear and Vanondibatirana were included in the Song Of the Year Category.

She said: “We knew that the public was not going to understand it if Disappear was not included in the category since it was a big song released year end, so we had to include it..”

In the same press conference she also confirmed that their cut-off date for consideration is August previous year to August current year.

So clearly Disappear was included only to appease the public.

As a principle, we think this is unacceptable for an organisation to flout its own regulations for mass sympathy.

Artists and the consumers of music need to trust the system. We hope this gets fixed next time.

Sponsors are beginning to believe in music as an industry

We saw some significant sponsors this time around, a commercial bank, mobile phone manufacturer, courier service, Africa’s biggest Satellite TV provider and a Mobile Telecoms network.

Although we are not privy to the amount of money these cooperates poured in, the good sign is that we can have something to build on from.

And the huge announcement by the lady from the Mobile telecoms company that they are pledging their support to music and not just awards is a welcome gesture.

The only time we see sponsors making such commitments is at HIFA, for which we can’t really ascertain for sure if their financial support benefits local musicians.

It was encouraging to also see that most celebrities were dressed by local retailers and designers; I also heard that that one local ladies’ wear shop is already recording high influx of potential customers just by dressing a few popular faces.
